Well said - the country is tough enough to survive anything political.

Nixon for example

Clinton for example

We will survive this - the water is choppy right now - but it will settle.

Rush does not sound happy at all about what he is hearing. Neither am I.

Nor I.

"Don't despair. Who knows what might happen in the next two years to change the political landscape? I know we're reeling from shock today, but we'll recover. Let's not give up hope."

No kidding. 2 years is a lifetime in politics. Most people couldn't tell you what they ate 2 days ago. World domination is thwarted in roughly 2 hours on the tv screen. I say buck up and keep fighting for principles.

brought to us by our Libertarian friends and neighbors.

Let's keep the responsibility where it belongs. The GOP leadership brought this on.

You don't work with them. You convince them your position is the correct one...or at least the more tolerable one for their wrongheadedness.

I know...I'm a believer too...but I just believe you need a majority to win?

"They smell the blood in the water. Those sharks. Besides they can't impeach Bush until Cheney is replaced with an ineffectual RINO. "

excellent point.....

a wise president picks a VP who the opposition would want even less.....

I like the way Bush is standing firm right now , Bush is a man of character !

This isn't Pessimism - it is looking at the truth and isn't the motto of the CIA, "The truth shall set you free"

As far as the Constitution goes, it will be just another historical document collecting dust in a few years

Hmm...MNJ:

We lost 24 seats? Some people said we would lose 30 to 50 seats. Big deal, it is a 6th year election, so it could be worse.

L_i_S
_____

So true, two weeks ago it looked worse for us.
This is just what happens in our political system. It's typical for a 6th year election.
We will be back.

Have we, did we really survive Carter and Klinton? Their failed policies are still very with us.

"spending money like drunken sailors"

And I can't wait to see fiscally conservative Democrates wake up to that, as the impending tax burden becomes due, repeatedly.

Our next two years has to also focus on every single screw up the dems make and believe me there will be many. Anything they do that the American people wouldn't like needs to be AMPLIFIED, a score card needs to be kept so we have all our talking points down perfectly for 2008. They are the ones that made all these promises to the American people, of course without a plan for doing any of them, and we now need to hold their feet to the fire for every little thing.

I agree with what you are saying...

My problem is how the base is TRULY treated by elected Republicans.....

THIS is what is killing them...

you see how I have been treated all morning?

and I did vote! How long do you expect people to be kicked in the teeth and still love you?

You have no idea what I have seen the GOP do to their own people......

Amen to that. I intend to stand and fight, not be a slackard. I was so discouraged the night of the 2000 Florida debacle that it took me several days to regroup and fight and Free Republic gave me back my backbone along with Rush, so I intend to live up to my handle Citizen Soldier.

With 40% turnout, I'm not sure many "moderates" voted.

We demanded unconditional surrender after beating the Germans and Japanese senseless, and then we laid out their form of govt. in no uncertain terms, and with no uncertainty on how we expected it done

Not true. In the end, Truman did not demand unconditional surrender from the Japanese. Even after the A Bombs, they insisted that they insisted on keeping the emperor (as they had before then). Truman thought about it and then overruled his pro-FDR advisors who wanted him to hold out for Unconditinal surrender. He agreed to the Japanese stipulation, hence it was very much a conditional surrender. In any case, Truman's decision on this point was not part of some nation building "master plan." In fact, it was a bitter pill for more pro US New Dealers who regarded Hirohito as the anti-Christ.

BTW, even pre-WWII the Japanese emperor's power was highly limited, though he did provide a useful rubber stamp for the militarists.

You people seem to think the Democrats are suddenly going to do everything up to rewriting the Constitution.

No..I don't believe that. I do believe they'll hold out for judges who will rewrite it for them. I believe they are not for this country having VICTORY or Winning the way Jack Bauer wins.
