I hope Conn doesn't have a law to require statehouse approval for Senate appointments.

If Rummy goes, I would offer Joe Lieberman the position of Sec of Defense and then let the Republican Gov of CT appoint a Republican Senator in his place.
Lieberman would turn it down. If the Senate goes as expected, he will be the swing vote. That will give him enormous power. He wouldn't give that up for a 2-year stint as SecDef.

"resignation of Rumsfeld? I am praying that President Bush does not cave to this PC BS"
I am already very disappointed in the election results today, and throwing Rummy under the bus would make me furious.

>And it was reflected Bush's same attitude in conducting the war in Iraq.<
Problem is, the same advisors are in place as were during the Viet Nam fracus, behind the scenes, but still calling the shots. What happened to the tried and true "go in there, and get 'um, and get out"? It worked up through WWII. (Although I do not think it is the duty of the US to reconstruct!)

I agree. I think the PR and communication from the White House is horrible. I'm an armchair quarterback when it comes to the White House PR dept. but then I would say to myself that Rove and the GOP know what they are doing...I guess I was wrong!!

"President Bush: 'I'm sorry I abandoned all my conservative principles'..."
What "conservative principles" did he first have to abandon?
... Not happy to say "we told you so."

Well Republicans let Dems dictate the campaign topics and were on the defensive all the time. You simply can not win playing defense all the time.

If that happens, I may just go over the edge. It's been a rough couple of days for all of us...but, we're not letting you go over the edge. We'd miss you too much! ;-)

Yep, they allowed Scott McClellan to dangle in the wind way too long.

Seems too soon after the election for Rumsfeld to resign...unless it was decided long ago and he was just hanging on through the election. I'd hate to make it seem as if the Dems were successful in forcing him out.
