Do you believe elections have consequences? Bush said he "earned capital" after winning his elections. Haven't the Democrats "earned capital," too? What about the millions of voters who voted? Don't they get to have their viewpoints enacted? It's perfectly clear that a majority of voters want us to leave Iraq. Who are you to say that the will of the minority should be above the will of the majority? Do conservatives need affirmative action now?
We don't have to agree with the results, but we must respect them.
Does every change in the political wind mean that we must change our foreign policy? No. It doesn't. We are on the backward slope of the war and it's only a matter of time until we start bringing troops home. 2007 was already expected to see a significant reduction of troops in Iraq. I'm sure that will happen. The Democrats are not the driving force behind that, and shouldn't been seen as such. If terrorists think they can influence our political dynamics forcing troops from Iraq, that would be a very damaging thing. Buck up. We'll be out of there in due time.
