Good question...and I suspect two groups that did: Reagan Dems and lots of social conservatives.
Fact is that most voters sat this one out. What is it ??? less than 35% voted...?
This is media created event...not an election.

I think that the dems had a really good GOTV this year. In my district, (D) Altmire just beat incumbent (R) Hart. This is a huge upset. Everyone I spoke to today said that the lines were the longest ever at the polls in this district, which is conservative dem. For instance, I am usually voter 10-20..this year I was 164. Same for my wife, and the inlaws.
I think that the dems have learned something from the trouncing over the past few elections.
