"ATTENTION: All Conservative bashers. Conservatives showed up. It's the precious unreliable moderates that seem to have sat this one out. So if you want to blast anyone, thank the ungrateful pack of Republican Moderates the GOP catered to the past two years. Don't believe me? Check out what races are going down. It ain't the conservative strongholds by and large, it's the wimpish Lib Mod districts."
This is absurd logic. Unless you give something for moderates to hold onto, they won't give you their support. And without their votes, you aren't going to win. Period. End of story. I've said it a thousand times, you play the race to win the majority of votes of the moderates, not just your conservative base. Those who think they can win with conservative votes alone just haven't been around long enough to know how the game is played.
So true.

Ronald Reagan would have never, ever used the word "comprehensive" to describe anything good.
"I've said it a thousand times, you play the race to win the majority of votes of the moderates, not just your conservative base."
And because "moderate" is just another term for "socially liberal", you have to tick off the Christian conservatives to please them.
But that's okay with the "moderates".
Gang of Fourteen.
Amnesty in the Senate and almost in the House.
High Spending.
McCain's constant attempts to sabotage the WOT by restricting what we can do.
CFR.
No ANWR.
Do I really need to continue? They damn well were catered to, and the net result is that they jumped ship. Meanwhile the Dems ran as conservatives to some success. Quite telling. It tells me my opinion that people like McCain are poisen to the GOP is correct.

Oh, I've seen how the Rinos and country clubbers play. They play without conviction, so they run pieces of crap like Chafee, and not only is he defeated, but you haven't moved the conservative ball down the court at all. Santorum did the best he could and lost - but at least there is a clear accountability set up. Pennsylvanians will now get to live with what they voted for and Santorum will get a cabinet post. So, who really plays to win?
Yet, day after day the battle here on FR when we discuss possible '08 candidates indicate most will never vote for anyone not 1000% conservative and in '08 that attitude will hand the WH to Hillary Clinton and that is what she is counting on. And before anyone trounces me, I'm very conservative, but a realist and we need that other 30% to win in '08.
