For MT, Fox is reporting that tally machines in Yellowstone Co. failed and the ballots are being counted by hand. Right now, 82% is in, Tester ahead by 3600 votes.

To be clear, these are the statewide numbers, not the Yellowstone County numbers. And the margin is now down to 3,300 votes with 83% in.

How about our thousands of air plans and tens of thousands of missiles. No need for ground invasion, just destroy the bastards from the air.

I don't know about expanding the war, but I do believe if you fight a PC war, you get a BS result. Granted, Bush has been forced to tread a very fine line, because a lot of his allies in finding and killing the bad guys are moderate Muslim governments, and he can't afford to act or sound too hostile and tick them off. They stop cooperating and we're in a world of hurt.

But warfighting 101 says when you decide to go to war you go in with overwhelming force, with the intention of breaking lotsa stuff, killing lotsa bad guys and completely messing up the place. You know your enemy backwards and forwards and you don't worry about the peace until the war is decisively won. A lot of those rules were broken to a certain extent, so the winning part is taking longer than anybody anticipated. And the American people are not known for their patience, especially when very young and brave men and women are dying.

Guys this is not getting us anywhere except closer to resembling the Trash on DU.

We got differences but we still basically agree on the broader issues, let us work on our strengths, instead of picking at our weaknesses.

Besides you are both Pretty ;-)

For the months leading up to the election your group has been marching in lockstep. I was told over and over that Iraq was going to save the day for Republicans.

Oh, FGS, grow up and learn to make up your own mind. Do what the rest of us do, read and make up your own minds.

BTW, if I believe half the crap I read on here, I'd be nuts by now.

Don't take this personally as you're a very solid freeper, but you and many others have a reflexive response to shoot the messenger.

And you and your "group" see everything in a bad light if you don't personally agree with it 100 percent. You and your inflexibility had a great part in what happened today.

The true base sticks with the party and votes against the party by not voting.

Bull. Those people are not the base. They are people who put their personal agendas ahead of the good of the country and the security of our country.

No thanks. Those people might as well be democrats because by staying home and pouting, they helped elect democrats.

How many votes are left in Tennessee and how many votes does Croker lead. Did not Ford already concede?

Tomorrow the GOP will be bleating about massive tax increases, which is likely true, but will depress the market and the economy.

Like somebody said on another thread, this time there just might not be a "reconciliation."

It's over in Tennessee. Corker won handily. Stick a fork in Mr. Ford, he's done. Etc. Etc.

The base came out big in 04 and that made the difference but you could also say the middle came through as well.

By "base", I'm not just referring to broken glass party loyalists but to those that would be open to voting Republican.

I think so ... God bless them with skill and toughness now, and bless our devoted troops. I can't imagine how worried and distracted they are.

I don't get this "spending" thing, I really don't. I haven't spoken up about it before, but I keep hearing it. And it just isn't true.

For projects, I've had to go over the Federal Budget several times in the past couple of years. Discretionary Spending, for the most part, has held to a level below inflation + growth. The only real increase in discretionary spending has been on the military and homeland security.

The only area where Bush has increased spending more than marginally is the Medicare Drug Benefit which, let's be frank, was a dumb idea - but, putting the Democrats in power would simply have meant a more expensive one.

The only "out-of-control" spending I've ever seen actually discussed at length is the various earmarks which, for all that they might piss people off, amount to a fraction of the Federal Budget overall.

The people fixated on spending are missing the forest for the trees.

The core reason for this defeat isn't any real defect in governance - it's the all-out media and cultural campaign against the President, against the war, and against the party in general.
