The Senate will stay Republican. If the Dims want to whine about the next Alito, they won't be able to vote him down.
To: jpsb
This is the MSM's doing. They campaigned for the RATS during every broadcast (and the press, who did the same in every article). This is the result of a country full of Sheeple, who cannot think for themselves or go seek out information and TRUTH--they just take it from the talking heads as if it were FACT.

Immigration from below the border. We need the Arizona Voter ID bill in every state of the union.
To: US Navy guy
We are actually in big trouble in the Senate in '08.
We have 22 seats to defend and the RATs only have 12. Of those 12, we only have a shot at four or five of them.
I am afraid we are in for a very rough couple of years.

you are trying to tell us they appealed to actual conservatives more then the republican candidate? did those "conservative voters" know anything, anything at all, about the agenda of the national democratic party? or are you identifying a new voting block, "dumb conservatives in the republican base".
Most of the Dem pickups were in open seats. The Dem candidates in the open seats tended to run as conservative Democrats. That's not to say the voters were conservative. Just that they would take a conservative Democrat over a liberal Democrat. The newbie Dems who actually ran as leftists tended to get squashed like a bug.
The National Democrat agenda had little or nothing to do with those races. The Dem agenda has been completely obfuscated. Example, the #1 issue, according to voters in the exit polls (if they can be trusted) was CORRUPTION. Well, which party is more corrupt? Absolutely it is the Democrats. Harry Reid $1.3 million kickback and William Jefferson's freezer full of cash trumps Dennis Hastert not going ballistic over a couple of naughty emails, or any $2,000 campaign contributions anyone received from Jack Abramoff.
Similarly, voters have been led to believe that we are in a near soup-kitchen economy, even as gas prices plunge and the Dow breaks record highs.
Anyway, the point is that CONSERVATIVES didn't lose the election. Republicans running from conservatives lost them some seats, and Democrats pretending to be conservatives gained them some seats.

This is one of the saddest nights, ever. This country doesn't deserve what you and so many families have sacrificed. I now hope and pray that our brave soldiers come home....NOW. I don't want another one harmed or killed for a country that doesn't value them.

Sadly, I think the next great awakening will be a major terrorist attack on our country
I hope not but the historical record provides many examples of that happening.

Hey folks, don't panic! We've survived Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. We can survive this. And if we hold onto the Senate, we're in pretty good shape, all things considered.

I doubt it's going to happen here--not "on our soil".
The terrorists have had tremendous success picking off our allies with attacks in their cities. Not to mention the lily livered Dems here at home.
They don't have to attack here. A few more riots in France. Bombs in London. Chaos in Iraq.
And God help Israel.

The GOP didn't have to do it, but they did for some unknown reason. It's not hard to figure out if you're a pragmatist.
Reagan gambled that "one last amnesty" would give time to close the dyke. It didn't happen for TWENTY YEARS. Now Bush had the ugly proposition of balancing elections, and a war, and a totally irrational base.....in light of the fact txsleuth pointed out....people like Santorum was a huge proponent of the fence. How'd that go for him? Was that Bush's fault?
Bush may have easily done the best anyone could in the worst of situations.
Friggin Clinton "wished" that something like 9/11 would happen to him. Bush, I'm sure, prayed that he didn't have all this land on his shoulders.
