IMMIGRATION KEPT GOP VOTERS HOME.

I really wish Republican loyalists would stop defending the stupidity of this administration in (actively) advocating such a mamby-pamby border policy.

It may have been the reason for tonight.

Why do I still live [in MA]?

I wonder if any Russians thought the same thing about Stalingrad when Hitler was knocking on the door. I wonder if the Continentals felt the same way when Cornwallis was kicking ass...

Besides, I'm on the internet. Who pays for porn?

We think a lot alike.

All those spineless Republicans who ran away from Bush are going down. Stupid, stupid move. Why should pubbies go out and vote for them?! It dispirited the base and emboldened the donks.

They used to call us the "Stupid Party".
Now we can be the "Stuck on Stupid Party".

at who? the republican House was the only thing standing in the way of the senate immigratiion bill. so it makes sense for "the base" to toss them?

The Bush and GOP senate approach to immigration depressed conservatives and reduced turnout. A falling tide lowers all boats.

It sticks in my craw, too, DoughtyOne. Lots of stuff about this campaign does, but I don't want to take the thread too off kilter and get into it right now.

There will be time enough for that later.

Curt Weldon (R) lost in the House in PA.

Mark Steyn says this is a typical 6-year election, with the opposition party underperforming compared to most six-year elections.

This year has looked like 1986 for several months. We lost a lot of close Senate races that year.

Yes, of course Iraq is a huge factor here, but we are also contending with the 6-year itch, and in that historical context, we are doing very well, particularly if the Senate holds.

Krauthammer had an excellent article too about how this kind of thing usually happens at the 6 year mark. He said the bad news is the Dems will try to hang it on the war and Bush, when it is just a normal cycle of politics.
