"I've looked at the outstanding precincts in GA-08 and GA-12 and I'll be quite surprised if the GOP carries either. I think the Dems score 100% retention, which is astounding."

If Barrow and Burns hold on, it will be the first time in the 150-year history of the GOP that the party fails to pick up a single House seat. Historic election, no doubt about it.

In looking at your pre-election list, I am impressed with its symmetry and accuracy. The GOP lost about 75% of the lean Dem seats, half the tossups, 25% of the Lean GOP, and 7% of the likely GOP (the Bradley seat). Very well done indeed. Kudos.

Thank you. I noticed that as well. This weekend I'll file a brief closing report on what went right and what went wrong about my election analysis. Stay tuned!

Not to do too-much back-patting, but yes I thought both your analyses was excellent in general and in specific.

Looking back, I should've stuck to the opinion I had a week ago that it would be 5-6 in the Senate and 25-30 in the House, but alas, sometimes you just miss the boat. Oh well. Governors races I felt much better about.

Anyway, I look forward to your closing report. I may post a brief one of mine too, just analyzing each prediction I made and where I thought it went right or wrong. Maybe an overview too with some points.

"A question I've asked before. What GOP Reps defeated tonight will come back and run in the future?"

I think Melissa Hart will be back, as well as Chocola and maybe Sodrel (why not try for a flip-flop-flip-flop?). I doubt we've heard the last of Jim Ryun, Richard Pombo or J.D. Hayworth, although they may take a few years off. If he loses, I think Simmons will run again in 2008. And Northup may finally be given a chance to run statewide, where she would be very hard to beat.

Among non-incumbents, Mac Collins and Max Burns may try again, and I think Lamberti would be foolish not to try again. And Negron would almost certainly beat Mahoney in 2008, so he might give it a go.

Am I missing anyone?

You might be right about all that but even then you have miscalculated to think typical John Q Public and the Left would let the war alone.

My friend, our political opponents here at home have damaged America more and taken far more of our rights than the Muslims ever have-rememeber of all our sorry SCOTUS decisions. If one considers abortion on demand, millions of Americans are dead and our social security pyramid is teetering over propped up by high taxes.

No--- the COURTS are the prize of the election given the deference the legislature shows them; now our influence is much reduced.

But to counter, your war on Islam forgets that there are literally millions and millions of them all over the world; it could be a long long war, unless you are advocating just nuking the crap out of all of them. Going 100% after the Taliban was justified, but we allowed a country 10,000 miles away to tweak our nose, huff and puff like a hen with threats that were very likely not there and now we lose Congress.

If Bush really wanted this thing, first he should have run off every Muslim alien in this country. Here we are going 10,000 miles to kill them and out of scrupulosity allow probably thousands of militants to stay here just because we have no proof. Is this a war or not? And how many more have come since?

To eliminate them all would take a huge ,huge war. And then still there is North Korea

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the fact you did not resort to name calling as so happens between "conservatives" on FR

On your NH post, I was just noticing the state legislature numbers as well.

In 2002, just four years ago, we won our most impressive across the board victory in the country in NH imo (282-118 in the state House, all constitutional offices, 18-6 state senate, all federal offices). 2006 was sort of the Dems 2002 as far as NH is concerned. And arguably, the Dems most impressive performance in the nation this year was NH.

Larry did great with his number in the House, but made as many mistakes as the rest of us as to individual races. He got wrong CT-4 FL-13 IA-2 Il-6 KY-3 NH-1 OH-2 PA-8 PA-6 CO-4 ID-01 KS-2 MN-01 NY-19 PA-4 WI-8.
