Subject: Urgent - Election in Jeopardy - Need Your Help!
Dear Supporter,
Would you please do me a favor?
Our internal poll tracking is showing that turnout is light in our key counties. If this trend continues through the rest of the day we may face real trouble. In 2002 we won because of the incredible turnout. Our latest comparison of turnout, shows a decline that could put the election in jeopardy.
I need you to immediately forward this email to 10 of your friends, family, and coworkers and urge them to vote now!
As soon as you have sent the email, please go vote right away.
Thank you and Godspeed,
Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. Governor
That's good news.
I live just south of the MD/VA line, and I have to tell you that the number of black women handing out literature on the VA Marriage Amendment was a very refreshing sight. I had my 8yo daughter with me, and one woman handing out information started to hand it to me, and then said "maybe you don't need this" I smiled and told her she was right, I was voting with her and my husband had already voted. her smle was priceless.
This is a scare tactic - Turnout may be depressed by the increased reliance on absentee ballots.
I love puppies, wouldn't miss voting for anything, but rather enjoyed the convenience of voting over a cup of coffee on a Sunday Morning, as opposed to blowing up my whole morning standing in line due to inept poll workers.
In short, neither party knows how this new option is going to effect turnout. It's a precautionary email, nothing more.
Relax - we're going to be pleasantly surprised in a few hours.
Let's hope that the right 20% voted down there :)
The girlfriend and I voted in Mt. Airy (Frederick County) this morning. The line was out the door around 7:15am. When we had finished voting the line shrunk but it was still pretty busy.
I'm only hearing low turnout in Baltimore which is good for Ehrlich.
I voted, now I pray.
lol
With the Marriage Amendment and the meals tax on the ballot, I'm inclined to think that 20% was heavily weighted toward the right voters :)
Only thing I can add is that turnout in Baltimore City is "light" so far according to "C4" on WBAL radio. As of 11am 10% turnout.
Rain coming in now through when the polls close. Perfect.
Agree that it is probably authentic. With a 2:1 dem to rep registration ratio, Ehrlich needs a very high Republican turnout to beat the arrogant O'Malley. So he's just trying to rally the MD GOP troops with the E-mail. I've heard reports that MD turnout has been high on WCBM radio in Baltimore, and there are alot of middle-of-the-road dems that like Ehrlich.
This is bogus. First, internal polling does not indicate the status of turnout. The poll watchers who are in the precincts should know whether our voters have actually voted. Second, it is highly unlikely that a candidate would make such a request. It would be made by a campaign chair.
The polling place is right near my house in Baltimore city. I passed three neighbors who said "No Way" were they voting for O'Malley. Encouraging.
The funniest thing happened when an O'Malley van with speakers on top drove by and announced "Vote for O'Malley, Leadership that Works!" and this very old woman on the corner yelled back "Yeah, like how???!!! You need to fix up our streets and pick up the trash!" Turnout here in the city is extremely low. No line at all.
I think that email is bogus. Ehrlich has been all over the place telling people to vote absentee because of all the problems at the polls on primary day. I'm sure his campaign has plenty of numbers showing that his voters in "key precincts" have already voted. No reason to do an email like this except to get it posted on all the liberal blogs and get them revved up.
Great news.
There are almost 200,000 Absentee Ballots that will not be counted until Thursday. I suspect that most Republicans voted that way.
Just heard a report from WCBM radio in Baltimore. Baltimore City turnout is reportedly very light. Only 10% of voters in the city have voted so far.
I wonder if it is even legal to drive that van with speakers going in front of the polling center. I mean if you can't get within 100 feet with a sign, how are you allowed to yell on a bullhorn??????
I couldn't disagree with you more.
But I do think this is airing on the side of caution.
Just heard Baltimore city turnout so far is extremely light ....... about 10% whereeas Baltimore county was extremely heavy. Good news for Ehrlich and Steele!
