New York Plans to Make Gender Personal Choice
The New York Times ^ | November 7, 2006 | DAMIEN CAVE

Separating anatomy from what it means to be a man or a woman, New York City is moving forward with a plan to let people alter the sex on their birth certificate even if they have not had sex-change surgery.

Should people be allowed to alter the sex on their birth certificate even if they have not had sex-change surgery? Under the rule being considered by the city’s Board of Health, which is likely to be adopted soon, people born in the city would be able to change the documented sex on their birth certificates by providing affidavits from a doctor and a mental health professional laying out why their patients should be considered members of the opposite sex, and asserting that their proposed change would be permanent.

Applicants would have to have changed their name and shown that they had lived in their adopted gender for at least two years, but there would be no explicit medical requirements.

“Surgery versus nonsurgery can be arbitrary,” said Dr. Thomas R. Frieden, the city’s health commissioner. “Somebody with a beard may have had breast-implant surgery. It’s the permanence of the transition that matters most.”

If approved, the new rule would put New York at the forefront of efforts to redefine gender. A handful of states do not require surgery for such birth certificate changes, but in some of those cases patients are still not allowed to make the change without showing a physiological shift to the opposite gender.

The funny thing is, the homosexual community has spent years trying to convince the world that sexual orientation is "NOT" a choice, but now we're supposed to understand that gender is?

"A college guy can change his sex to female, join the girls soccer team, and shower with them. And they can't complain, since he's a female."

LOL, along that line, I'm 59 and grew up in Louisiana. I can honestly say, while young, I never even considered what a hairdresser was, let alone becoming one.

Well when I was 28 or so (1975) I was doing well as a stockbroker but when I saw the movie "Shampoo" I realized that there certainly might be some perks in that less than machismo profession.

Gender is not "constructed"

You're basically right, but the technical details tell a revealing story. Gender is indeed constructed by man. But people (and animals) don't have gender, since gender is just a characteristic of words. La porte—French for "door"—is a noun of feminine gender. Human practice, rather than God or nature, makes this so.

That's why homo-activists and assorted other malcontents absurdly try to apply the word "gender" to flesh-and-blood creatures—to imply that sex is a mutable decision made by human beings (or perhaps goats), rather than a trait built into every cell of a creature's body.

The malcontents pretend to believe in "gender," as opposed to sex—even though no one does. The reality is too obvious. But my observation is that the people who go in for the fiction are so angry at the world for their own fears and shortcomings that they'll make claims for human "gender" to create a safe zone of unreality for themselves. So the idea is more than false. Like other forms of Marxism, it's more of a devout lie, with all the power hunger and hatred for one's neighbor that that implies.

There's a reason this sort of b.s. is taken seriously only in places like universities and welfare states such as New York City, which are so subsidized as to foster their own little zones of unreality.

I gotta hand it to these perverts--they're smarter than I. I would never have thought of this.

There is no such thing as "sex change surgery". Just because you have something whacked off ore sewn on doesn't make your chromosomes suddenly rearrange themselves. At no time should someone be allowed to change the sex on their birth certificate.

That is just a "logical" as making age, race, and ethnic background a personal choice. What about all those people who say they have a young mind trapped in an old body? Or, like Michael Jackson, claim they are white?

There are a lot of people who have been trying to figure that out for the past 2000 years...

That's exactly the reason for it of course.

I never thought I'd see the day when the country is in need of a constitutional amendment to declare that "a man" is defined as someone with a Y-chromosome.
