ASHBURN -- Sen. George Allen talked terrorism and football yesterday as he made a late pitch for votes.
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani made a quick trip from Florida to Virginia to talk up the Republican senator's record on combatting terroism.
"This isn't a time for inexperience," Giuliani said, an indirect reference to Allen's Democratic opponent, Jim Webb. "This isn't a time for turning back the clock, which is, after all, what Geoge's opponents want to do. They want to go back before Sept. 11, when we used to play just defense against terrorists."
Giuliani spoke at a rally at the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy in Ashburn.
Allen has defended the increasingly unpopular war in Iraq, because he said American withdrawal from that country would encourage terrorists. War critic Webb says the American invasion has bred terrorism.
Allen spent almost two hours yesterday, two days before the election, in Landover, Md. But he found plenty of Virginians there enjoying tailgate parties and preparing for the Washington Redskins-Dallas Cowboys football game.
Talking to reporters beside a pickup truck parked in the huge lot at FedEx Field, Allen called the conviction and sentencing yesterday of Saddam Hussein "a great day for justice."
The death sentence is "most appropriate for the crimes he has committed," Allen said.

I'm feeling better about things this morning. But this has been a roller coaster ride and my nerves are frayed.
I am too. Much better than I have been in the past weeks whether its been for Allen or other Republicans. .
Hampton Roads pastors endorse Allen; Webb also in southeast Va. (11/6/06)
HAMPTON, Va. About 20 ministers from predominantly black churches in southeast Virginia endorsed Republican incumbent George Allen today in the hotly contested Virginia Senate race.
Bishop Oried (oh-REED') Graves of the Hosannah Christian Church of Suffolk said he believes that Allen is ... quote ... "the man of the hour to carry Virginia into the future."
The minister said during a news conference in Hampton that the top reason they support Allen is because he is backing the amendment that would ban same-sex marriage.
Pastor Harold Whack of the New Covenant Christian Fellowship in Hampton said support goes beyond marriage. He said ... quote ... "It's time for patriots to stand up in America."

I think the RCP average slightly oversampled kaine's lead by mayby 1-2 points(for kilgore), i forget. I do remember seeing it being close to the 9 side of things.
Random tidbit, but in 1994, 'generic' polling had dems up by 5 or 6% right before the election.
I hear you. I had trouble sleeping lastnight. I'm literally running to the polls tomorrow morning and casting my vote for George Allen.
I'm almost tempted this year to do what my friend is, just go to sleep early, and wake up and see the results. I'm quite tempted, i dont know if i want to site there all antsy for hours and hours.
That's because he's otherwise unemployed. Plus, I hear there are some really cute little boutiques in the DC area.
By the way..............onyx
Listen to 'Snowbird' by Anne Murray............. it's all about the good FReepers including you.
Beneath this snowy mantle cold and clean..... The unborn grass lies waiting for its coat to turn to green..... The snowbird sings the song he always sings..... And speaks to me of flowers that will bloom again in spring
If Allen loses, I don't know. I'll feel like Admiral Beatty at Jutland when he turned to his flag captain and said, "There's something wrong with our bloody ships today."
Honestly though, didn't Kilgore get shellacked in Fairfax County with only 38% of the vote going to him? And didn't Kaine do better around Richmond than most Democrats do? (He was Mayor). Honestly, how could Allen do worse than Kilgore?
right now, Allen needs Rudy alot more then Rudy will need Allen.
Exactly. Which is why he's sewing up Allen's support (assuming that Allen wins).
Yep. I'll be at the poll bright and early tomorrow.
I can't do that anymore (sleep thru an election). Ever since the 2000 election I've been an all-nighter when it comes to elections.
REELECT GEORGE ALLEN TOMORROW!!! VOTE GOP!!!
