ASHBURN -- Sen. George Allen talked terrorism and football yesterday as he made a late pitch for votes.
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani made a quick trip from Florida to Virginia to talk up the Republican senator's record on combatting terroism.
"This isn't a time for inexperience," Giuliani said, an indirect reference to Allen's Democratic opponent, Jim Webb. "This isn't a time for turning back the clock, which is, after all, what Geoge's opponents want to do. They want to go back before Sept. 11, when we used to play just defense against terrorists."
Giuliani spoke at a rally at the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy in Ashburn.
Allen has defended the increasingly unpopular war in Iraq, because he said American withdrawal from that country would encourage terrorists. War critic Webb says the American invasion has bred terrorism.
Allen spent almost two hours yesterday, two days before the election, in Landover, Md. But he found plenty of Virginians there enjoying tailgate parties and preparing for the Washington Redskins-Dallas Cowboys football game.
Talking to reporters beside a pickup truck parked in the huge lot at FedEx Field, Allen called the conviction and sentencing yesterday of Saddam Hussein "a great day for justice."
The death sentence is "most appropriate for the crimes he has committed," Allen said.

(((((Allen Ping))))
Giuliani is sewing up endorsements for 2008.
BUMP and pingage.
This ain't over yet folks. Four Words:
GET. OUT. THE. VOTE.
And yes, it really DOES hinge on that.
That's a fact!
BUMP!
I heard Allen on WNIS this morning and he referred to a new Gallup poll just reeleased that has him up by 3 points...anyone seen that poll?
I haven't yet but I'll post it if I can get a hold of it!
He's all over the place. It's a wonder he isn't exhausted by now. LOL
It's posted before. It's a mix, with Allen and Corker both up by 3 pts, but we lost everywhere else.
Not that I was particularly worried about Thelma Drake losing in VA-02, but the Virginian Pilot's endorsement of her campaign was absolutely devastating in its criticism of Phil Kellam. Ouch!

Campaign release, November 4, 2006
On Monday evening, November 6, Senator George Allen will be joined by Senator John Warner in a special message to Virginia voters. This will mark the third time that Senator Allen has taken his message directly to voters in a two-minute, statewide televised address.
The previous Monday night addresses have drawn a large audience of voters who responded to Senator Allens positive message of Issues, Ideas and Proven Records.
Please spread the word about this important event. Tune in Monday night and invite your family, friends, co-workers and neighbors to see this important message. Please alert friends on your e-mail network, especially any who may still be undecided. This televised message will motivate Virginians to go vote for positive, constructive ideas and solutions to problems facing Virginia and America.

In about the last week and a half the polls have all been hovering around a 3 pt. lead for Webb or a 3 pt. lead for Allen. This is really neck and neck.
There are about 7% undecided which is high this late in the game.
As for Thelma Drake, she'll pull it off. Kellam signed his own death certificate when he started bailing out of the debates.
Good! This is a good thing. Allen gets his message out to the voters.
It's going to be a squeaker BUT Allen will win.
FWIW, I took a quick look at the Kaine/Kilgore polls for the day before last year. They had Kaine up by 3-9.
I am hoping that the following will help Allen:
1) Jim Webb has ~yet~ to give reasons to vote FOR him.
2) Anyone paying attention knows that it's the Webb camp that has been flinging the mud.
3) The Marriage Amendment has to help. I just can't believe that Virginia will be the state to defeat that.
If I'm wrong, I'm checking into rehab.
Allen - 52%
Webb - 47%
I have a good feeling about Allen. He will win. I think he will learn a few lessons about his opponents this time and next time whether he runs for his Senate seat again OR president will be stronger for it. He's relatively young, he's conservative and he has alot going for him.
