They cannot comprehend the young man or woman who subjugates self to a larger calling.

Bottom line: They do not understand HONOR

Congratulations....You just hit the bull's eye.

So, two of the last four top-of-the-ticket Democrats (Lieberman in 2000, Kerry in 2004) are now outcasts of their party for being on opposite sides of the same issue. Explain that twisted logic

The difference is this:

Lieberman said what he meant, but never should have meant it.

Kerry said what he meant, but never should have said it.

Yep.

<< Senator Nuancy Boy is secure in little else except his belief in his indispensability .... Tony Blair -- a big mushy-leftie pantywaist on health and education and all the other sissy stuff .... McCarthy .... destroyed (only another) Democrat .... Carter (achieved only) one screwed-up helicopter mission in (four years); Bill Clinton bombed more countries in ... six months than the Zionist neocon warmonger (United States of America's President and Armed-Forces Commander-In-Chief, George Walker) Bush has in six years (and), unless you happened to be in that Sudanese aspirin factory, was as desultory and uncommitted (about bombing) as his sex life (which was) characterized by the same inability to reach .... "completion. >>

Mr Steyn, as usual, nails every one of the mushy-leftie, pantywaisted, sissy, nuancy boys - and traitors!

Thanks for the ping, Pokes.

Even for Steyn, this piece has a lot of good lines.

And those are just some random quotes!

When I watched his gaffe, I felt that he was so proud of his little "joke" that he had to construct a situation in which to use it. It was as though he'd rehearsed it, and couldn't wait for us to all be awed by his witty dig at America's brave soldier-heroes.

Boy are you right! What else can we expect from the "let them eat cake" crowd...a bunch of immature, selfish, adolescent goonbahs whose only thought is about self, self, self, who live in a Stepford world of "ought to be" and who are stuck in a timewarp capsule dated 1967?

I was six years old during the Vietnam War--heck we lived about a stones' throw from Haight-Ashbury--and even I could tell that all those people on TV and on the streets weren't just dirty, they were nasty--and had their brains fried on acid! They haven't changed a bit.

I was disgusted with them 40 years ago and I'm just as disgusted now.

What you need to know about the Democratic Party and U.S. Foreign Policy starting about, oh let's say, April 1971.

"President Jimmy Carter confined himself to one screwed-up helicopter mission in Iran; Bill Clinton bombed more countries in a little more than six months than the Zionist neocon warmonger Bush has in six years but, unless you happened to be in that Sudanese aspirin factory, it was as desultory and uncommitted as his sex life and characterized by the same inability to reach (in Ken Starr's word) "completion." As for John Kerry, since he first slandered the American military three decades ago, he's been wrong on every foreign policy question and voted against every significant American weapons system."

Though I can hardly take all the credit, I am glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks Kerry should be "swift-booted" out of office. Now it's official.

He is a disgrace to the nation. An utter disgrace.

The whole 'it was supposed to be a joke' nonsence doesn't even make any sense!
GW Bush DID go to university.
What a total idiot. (A pity no one's pointed this out...)

"On that last, note that the American people never responded to the Dems' and MSM's repeated demands to film flag-draped coffins returning to Dover. Patriots understood their motive: portray the fallen as victims, symbols of the folly of war."

Yes - the MSM are anxious to show nightly footage of coffins returning to Dover because that suits their political aims; they are determined never to show video of the people jumping from 95th story windows of the WTC, for the same reason.

Steyn is a genius. He summed up what I thought about Kerry and his clan, but with far more insight than I could muster.

Replace the Demo Donkey with John Kerry.

Would we be able to tell the difference?

Oh, right. Kerry has a longer face and bigger teeth...

The left still doesn't understand that it's the soldier who guarantees every other profession -- the defeatist New York Times journalist, the anti-American college professor, the insurgent-video-of-the-day host at CNN, the hollow preening blowhard senator. Kerry's gaffe isn't about one maladroit Marie Antoinette of the Senate but a glimpse into the mind-set of too many Americans.
