I would like to announce the ROVE, YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARD ping list.
In it, we will ping you to news items that show that Karl Rove has -- once again -- outwitted the hapless Democrats. Has there ever been such a political giant as Karl Rove? He outwaters Atwater, he outsnakes Carville... he's one of a kind.
Come see his shenanigans, as he outfoxes the liberals yet again! I don't know yet what sort of volume it will be, but please -- I encourage you to post here and let me know if you wish to sign up!
I would like to work this ping list with one other individual who will share in the work of maintaining it.
TOPICS: Politics/Elections; Your Opinion/Questions
KEYWORDS: ibtrymbp; magnificentbastard; pinglist; rove; rovepinglist; rymb; thearchitect; turdblossom; whatifhelosesidiot

Patton read one of Rommel's books on Armor tactics... then whomped on Rommel and made the "You magnificent bastard! I read your book!" Remark (at least according to the George C. Scott movie version).

AYBRBTU started externally to FR. That craze crested before FR picked up, tho we did have fun with it. RYMB is more in line with cheese and showers and seriesly hugh.
I'm sure someone somewhere bookmarked the original RYMB.

"Can someone explain to me how this "magnificent bastard" thing started? What does it refer to?" The line is a take off from a bit of dialog George C. Scott said in the Movie Patton.
When Patton went up against Rommel he kicked his butt and the line in the movie is (as Patton is watching through his binoculars the American tank forces administering the Butt-kicking to Rommel's troops) "Rommel you magnificent Bastard, I red Your Book!"
Rommel had written and published a book on tank warfare and Patton had immersed himself in it prior to battling Rommel. So Patton knew exactly what Rommel would do in such a battle and deployed his forces to take advantage of such.
Thusly the line is used for Rove (The Most Magnificent of ALL the Bastards) because he knows the Democrat's play-book and deploys his forces to exploit their weaknesses.y

Thanks. I had thought that perhaps Bush had somewhere, in private, described Rove as a "magnificent bastard," and that this had somehow become public knowledge.
