Even if a guest in another person's home, a male seeking to urinate wouldn't want his genitals to contact the seat rim where another man's genitals were likely in contact while having a bowel movement earlier. Males should just be very, very careful doing their #1 business when visiting family or friends. It sounds like standing would be much preferable in that instance...unless the host thoughtfully provided a can of Lysol spray conspicuously present to properly sterilize the area.
