Senator Santorum Comments on Release of Valuable Information in Pre-War Documents Discovered in Iraq
Rick Santorum, U.S. Senate ^ | November 3, 2006

Lewisburg, PA -- Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA), Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, commented today on a story published in The New York Times that calls to question the release of valuable information contained in captured pre-war documents discovered in Iraq.

“It is incumbent on the President, as our Commander in Chief, to hold members of the intelligence community accountable to the law if an error was made in improperly posting sensitive information on the Internet.”

“In the legislation that I authored, and in correspondence with the President, the Director of National Intelligence, John Negroponte, and Defense Secretary Rumsfeld, I have always stressed that we must guard against the dangerous disclosure of classified information in the interest of national security.”

“Releasing captured Iraq documents is imperative to prevailing in our military campaign in Iraq. These documents are necessary to help the American people understand the nature of the threat we face and the justification for our invasion of Iraq. There are many things that need to be done in this war, but none of them will happen unless the American people come to grips with the terrible fact that we are at war, and there is no way to escape it.”

Senator Santorum introduced legislation in March requiring the Director of National Intelligence to make available military documents and photographs recovered in Iraq and Afghanistan. Specifically, the bill requires the Director of National Intelligence to make publicly available on an Internet website documents captured in Afghanistan or Iraq during Operation Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, or Operation Iraqi Freedom. The legislation authorizes the Director of National Intelligence to withhold making a document publicly available if the release of the materials would be harmful to America's national security interests.

This NYT story was a gift to him, and he muffed it. I hope he wins, but this was stupid, stupid, stupid.

Anybody in Pennsylvania who can be influenced by anything that the NYTs publishes has long since made up their mind about this election.

You want to talk about stupid?

With a potential Casey win,Pennsylvanians are on the verge of having the most stupid person in the senate representing them.

Did Rick miss an opportunity here to let it be known that the REAL STORY here is that the documents showed SADDAM WAS ONE YEAR AWAY FROM HAVING AN ATOMIC BOMB?

C'mon Rick; don't miss this opportunity.

and I heard today that there were 48,000 BOXES of documents...think of what is still left to translate.

Particularly for the one translator that the NSA has.

Happy birthday Grampa Dave. May the good Lord grant you many healthy ones yet to come. Nothing like having family around to celebrate the precious gift of life.
Looks like the L/MSM will have to go to sleep as the steam builds in pressure. Eventually the American public are going to be hit between the frigen eyes... with a Saddam had all forms of wmds as well as plans for further development once the sanctions where lifted.
Books shall be written with all the details, as I have been harping to Ernest for the past two years. It is the natural path of how things become known. Sadly GWB will have to wait a few years to be vindicated from all the crap being flung at him on a daily basis.

Thanks for the wishes and kind words.

Amazing how the Ny Slimes has lead the mantra of no WMDs in Iraq, and now they tell us that Saddam was within a year of having one. Then they are concerned that the data from $addam is so dangerous, and it could enable Iran to have the bomb. Of course they ignored the reality that Clinton gave Iran the design to make the bomb.

The NYSlime as it's sister partners in crime continue to get away with so much, the public at large simply do not pick up on. At least we can relish in the occasional goof ups they make. One can only wonder how many Americans will connect the dots on this latest goof up.
