Daniel Ortega ruled Nicaragua from 1979 to 1990. He may do so again very soon.
The leader of the Nicaraguan political party FSLN, better known as the Sandinistas, is no stranger to the spotlight he went toe to toe for years with President Ronald Reagan or standing for president he has done so in every election since being defeated in 1990 by Violeta Chamorro. Mostly he has been relegated to a distant second or worse. This year, however, the Nicaraguan historical dustbin seemingly has an escape hatch. But why is 2006 so different? The answer comes in three parts: Hugo, Herty and Ollie.

I don't think Ortega is going to get 35% of the vote, but blaming that potential outcome on Oliver North is ridiculous.
Ollie is disappointed that Condi Rice and the gang at the State Department are backing a third candidate who is splitting the anti-Sandinista vote and has no chance of winning.
The Liberal Party candidate is polling around 25-30 percent and Ollie supports him. But Ortega is up around 40 percent and the third loser that the Administration supports is somewhere around 15 percent.
How many times have we been told not to support a third party that has no chance of winning? The State Department didn't get the message because that's exactly what they are doing allowing Ortega to come back and God knows what happpens next.
That's it. I'm gonna quite buying his hard-shell tacos.
Ortega has never polled higher than 35%, but he's darn close.
Well I thought the BBC had it that way if I heard it right.
Both Zogby and a firm out of Costa Rica have Ortega in the 33-34% range of support. That's too close for comfort, but it's not a slam dunk.
If Ortega doesn't win in the first round, he's going to get slammed in the second round.
What always struck me about that photo is the near-worshipful look that bimbo is giving Ortega. Encapsulates quite nicely just how idiotic the left is when it comes to commie tyrants.
Too funny
Dim Eyed Danny on the road again.
