Warden Message: Islamabad Hiking Trail Assaults
U.S. Embassy Islamabad issued the following Warden Message on November 17:

The Embassy would like to make the American citizen community aware of the following recent security incidents. There was a suicide bombing in Peshawar at the intersection of Al Bara and Ring Road at 7:30 AM today. A suicide bomber on foot detonated himself next to a police van, injuring two policemen. In Lahore today an explosive was placed in a trashcan in a residential/shopping area, killing three people and injuring fourteen others.

U.S. citizens should consider limiting nonessential travel, and are reminded to examine their personal security practices. As always, we remind American citizens to avoid areas where Westerners are known to congregate, to vary their routes and times, to be aware of their surroundings at all times, and to maintain a low profile.

For the latest security information, Americans traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department's Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov where the current Worldwide Caution Public Announcement, Travel Warnings and other Public Announcements can be found. Up to date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the United States, or, for callers outside the United States and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).

U.S. citizens may contact the American Citizens Services Unit of the Embassy or the Consulates General for further information. Each of the telephone numbers listed below is available 24 hours a day for emergency services.
