(Harold)Ford asks Kerry to apologize

MEMPHIS — Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Harold Ford Jr. issued a statement this morning calling on U.S. Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., to apologize for comments that Republicans including President Bush contend disparage U.S. troops in Iraq.

“Whatever the intent, Senator Kerry was wrong to say what he said,” Rep. Ford said. “He needs to apologize to our troops.”

But Rep. Ford, who served as an honorary co-chairman of Sen. Kerry’s 2004 failed presidential bid, said that the senator’s “words don’t alter the fact that the stay-the-course strategy pursued by President Bush and supported by Bob Corker isn’t working. We need a new direction in Iraq. I know how hard our troops work, and the sacrifices they make, for our freedoms. They deserve a plan for victory as good as they are, and as senator I intend to see they get one.”

It's over for McBurgerFlipper in MO also. She blew it the last cpl of weeks. The Senate for Democrats is gone. Pelosi I think has lost the House also. This last gaff by Kerry has engergized the Republican base like a lightning bolt and I think all the Dems can hope for is making a little ground and hope for some coattails in 2008 if the win the Whitehouse.

Ford is showing his true colors (and desparation) by having former draft dodger & formerly impeached president Bill Clinton come campaign for him.

Maybe Kerry should ask Bill Clinton to publicly define and 'translate' the meaning of what Kerry said.

The entire antiwar effort is dangerous to our troops, and leads to American deaths that otherwise would not occur. The terrorists gain hope from the antiwar crowd that we will be forced by political leaders (Dems) to leave Iraq, in disgrace. They believe, with some cause, that killing Americans will give Dems the fodder they need to gain powr and withdraw. So they go out and put all their efforts into killing Americans.

Now, if the Dem position was, "no matter the sacrifice, no matter how long it take, no matter how cruel the enemy, no matter whether we supported it at the beginning, a war once begun by America must be concluded successfully, and so, we stand behind the President, the troops and the Nation in Iraq", then the terrorists would realize that an IED here, and a sniper there, are not accomplishing anything except the deaths of dozens of their own people, and so they would give up on those tactics and go home.

So, Democrats are getting our people killed and dragging out the length of this war.

Depends on what you think an apology is. It's going to be of the detestable variety like a Jane Fonda that insults you.

I'm sorry if anyone of you interpreted my remarks as an insult re: I'm sorry you are an indiot.

Yup, that kind of "apology" I see coming in a couple of days.

Exactly. Benedict Arnold was a hero for BOTH sides too.

Kerry must resign, and it's up to the Republican Party to demand his resignation. And where is the outrage from democrats over Kerry's comments?

It's like the Dems have formed a circle and pulled out their weapons and open fire....bwahahahahahaha.. the only thing better would be for Iran, North Korea, Syria, Hamas, Al-Quaida, Venezuela to develop a biologic warfare agent and accidentally release it amongst themselves

Poor JR. *grins* He has been such a staunch supporter of Kerry. And this with his desperation already showing. I would love to see his internal polls. I believe they show him losing big time.

WHEN Dems don't take any majority this election, Kerry will pay the price. He WILL resign.

Disagree. He's utterly filled with hubris. He'll probably spend as little time in Congress as he did when running for President (whatever happened with that lawsuit to force him to give back the paychecks, anyway?) but he won't resign, because he's BETTER than EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD.

Harold Ford is running as a conservative, calling himself a (D) and hoping to siddle up to Harry Reid and work on immediate withdrawal from Iraq and impeach Bush. I hope Tennessee doesn't fall for this charade

I have been really impressed by Ford this whole campaign season. Now he has asked Kerry to apologize. I was so proud of Ford this morning that I went down and early-voted for Corker.

It felt SO good to finally, after 21 years in Tennessee, be able to vote against one of these Ford clowns.

Ford was one of Kerry's biggest and earliest supporters in 2004. And if Ford had been born 5 months earlier, he'd have been Kerry's VP choice. Corker should be running ads superglueing Kerry to Ford. This , IMHO, wraps up the race for Corker, and with it, ANY hope the Dems had for the Senate..

I predict that Kerry will end up apologizing.

No way.

I agree.

The more that the democrats HIGHLIGHT their disdain and utter CONTEMPT for the US military and its efforts, the better.

The democrats have been doing their best to undermine the efforts of our military for two generations now (since Vietnam)--with John Kerry doing the cheerleading as 'Slanderer-in-Chief'

John Kerry's ability to be an 'eloquent spokesman for the contempt that the democratic party has for its benefactors' makes him a darling of far left.

Democrats and liberals absolutely loathe and despise the military (look at comments by Durbin, Pelosi, Dean, Kennedy, Kerry, Reed, etc)--and the more that they remind the American public of that,,,,the better.
