(Harold)Ford asks Kerry to apologize

MEMPHIS — Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Harold Ford Jr. issued a statement this morning calling on U.S. Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., to apologize for comments that Republicans including President Bush contend disparage U.S. troops in Iraq.

“Whatever the intent, Senator Kerry was wrong to say what he said,” Rep. Ford said. “He needs to apologize to our troops.”

But Rep. Ford, who served as an honorary co-chairman of Sen. Kerry’s 2004 failed presidential bid, said that the senator’s “words don’t alter the fact that the stay-the-course strategy pursued by President Bush and supported by Bob Corker isn’t working. We need a new direction in Iraq. I know how hard our troops work, and the sacrifices they make, for our freedoms. They deserve a plan for victory as good as they are, and as senator I intend to see they get one.”

Minimum, there needs to be and immediate call for Kerry to be censured and every Senater should vote publically---but better would be a call for his resignation. This man is a disgrace.

Rep Ford is stabbing John Kerry in the back. Who in turn stabbed America in the back with his Vietnam war antics. Kerry has always been a wise guy. A joker. A smart Alec. That's all you need to know about him

It is unbelievable that a Senator would denigrate our troops in a time of war and in the middle of the battle for Baghdad!

He must go.

"He's dangerous - a liberal that plays a conservative on television. He also has enough awareness to see beyond what the moonbats see."

The problem with the theory that RATS could play moderate and win, all the RAT funding comes from the wild-eyed barking moonbats.

They wont donate much to one that isn't.

Call all of your Senators and Representatives, regardless of party. Beltway media will try to convince Republicans that no one cares -- the cover-up is well underway.

Be nice to GOP offices and demanding of Democratic offices -- affirm or repudiate the Kerry remarks.

This whole effort to get Kerry to apologize is wrong. What good does a phony apology do? He is not sorry, he truly believes that soldiers serving in 120 degree heat in the desert are idiots. He has no concept of duty or patriotism. As a political matter, he should want to apologize to try to end the firestorm, but why we would make it seem that an apology would make everything ok is beyond me. It should be publicized because it demonstrates Kerry's actual beliefs, not because it requires an apology.

It depends on how desperate the moonbats are for victory. They're not desperate enough yet to realise that they need to tone down the rhetoric. Ford is preparing himself for that day.

Again, as I say, he's dangerous. Red State Democrats are far more concerning than Blue State ones; you expect liberal gobshite from Blue States. Red State ones have to at least look sensible part of the time.

Regards, Ivan

Apparently, nobody on Kerry's staff has the grapes to just say, "Listen, it doesn't matter what you want people to think you meant to say. It only matters what you really said, and that what you really said was offensive, And it doesn't matter how low your opinion really is of the people who were offended, they are voters, stupid."

I think our operatives have also missed another angle: the mother and father who is already worried about their son or daughter's safety in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Kerry remarks are mean-spirited, insulting and hurtful to families whose children are in harms way.

I have tried to avoid any news about polls...I don't trust them..

I just remembered that Corker/Ford poll result...because it was shown on Fox right after Kerry's non-apology yesterday afternoon...and it was just too ironic that Ford was down so low...at the same time Kerry was digging a big hole..

No one on Kerry's Senate or personal staffs would say that to him b/c they believe in the spirit and intent of his remarks.

If Ford wanted to do the right thing, he would call for Kerry's resignation.
An apology now is meaningless.
The time for Kerry to have apologized was immediately after making his remarks on Monday night or worst case-yesterday.
And we know how that went.

Let me be the first to say it:

I predict that Kerry will end up apologizing.

What say ye?

Let me share an interesting anecdote. For many years, a former Justice Department aide to Robert Kennedy was President of the Tennessean, Nashville's principal newspaper. He later became editorial director of USA Today. His son, of the same name, is a big name on MSNBC. Our offices were very near to each other when he was with USA Today, and because I did a lot of work on newsworthy issues, I came to know him. That name is John Seigenthaler.

I can see your point if one were to assume that the rational ones haven't already left the RAT party. I think they left after Clinton and the gun-banning Brady days of the 90's.

I could be wrong, but I think all they have left is elderly voters that had always voted Dem, and the moonbats that populate the DUck room.

Kerry's service in the past doesn't excuse his treason now.

IF he apologizes..it will be one of those non-apology, apologies..

Like..IF I upset any of the troops or their family, I am sorry...

BUT, will not leave it at that...and will go on to make a stump speech...which will PROVE what everyone in America already knows...he wouldn't be HONEST if he apologized now..just being politically forced to do so.
