What's scary is I just realized this guy was a police officer. I hate to think of the poor decisions he made while he was on the force.

We don't know anything else about him, the city in which he served, the type of police job he actually had, the content of his character and that of his wife, etc. The story is sparse, typical drive-by media. All we know is he retired to Malaysia and is nominally a Christian.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Around our house we don't open the door to stranger at 2am. In fact we don't open it in daytime if we don't know for sure why they are there. Talking through the door isn't difficult.
