I think someone sent word down the chain of command... you know it's election time, tone down until after the election.

The American Civil Liberties Union on Friday dropped a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the USA Patriot Act. The ACLU said it was withdrawing the lawsuit filed more than three years ago because of "improvements to the law."
IOW, this has *nothing to do with* the election in nine days. ;')

I don't know whether or not their gov't funds still come strictly from winning cases.
However, in 1994, Newt Gingrich called for wholesale defunding of the left. IIRC Planned Parenthood, the ACLU and the Corp for Public Broadcasting were on his hit list. Of course, due to rinos nothing changed.

The ACLU said it was withdrawing the lawsuit filed more than three years ago because of ``improvements to the law.''Yeah right! They're just trying to make people think the ACLU is a good and right organization, so the taxpayers will keep giving them money...
