Mexico: an American cameraman and a teacher killed by ball with Oaxaca

OAXACA (Mexico) - an American cameraman, Brad Will, independent chain Indymedia, and a teacher were killed by ball Friday at the time of exchanges of shots in the town of Oaxaca (southern), according to leaders of the movement of protest against the local governor who has lasted for more than 4 months.

Brad Will "received a ball in the chest", declared with AFP Florentino Lopez, spokesman of the Parliament Popular of the People of Oaxaca (APPO) which requires the resignation of the governor of the State Ulises Ruiz.

"a teacher, wounded by ball, has just died and a teacher is seriously wounded", announced on her side to radio operator the another leader of the APPO Flavio Sosa.

Seven other people were also wounded, of which a photographer of the Milenio newspaper, Oswaldo Ramírez, in confrontations around the barricades set up by the demonstrators of Oaxaca who closed Friday the four road accesses of the city, after the incidents.

"We have just informed the consulate of the United States which was well-informed already", Florentino Lopez affirmed.

"the shootings left the roof of the municipal palate, where the police officers and the henchmen of Ulises Ruiz folded up themselves", it added.

The conflict with Oaxaca, initially for a wage revalorization of the teachers, had begun on May 22, then had radicalized on June 14, before extending to other sectors from the company when the governor had sent in vain the anti-riot police force to raise the blockade of the teachers.

The APPO, which gathers the 70.000 teachers of the State de Oaxaca, one of poorest of Mexico, and the social organizations, occupies the center of the city since June 22. Each night of the barricades are drawn up to avoid a possible intervention of the police force to dislodge them.

Before the incidents of Friday, the assessment of the movement of protest, which resulted in many arrests in the rows of the demonstrators, of five had died.

I remember in Phys-Ed in high school, some of the bigger girls could throw those dodge balls really hard. I soon learned to catch one in the chest as quickly as possible so I could sit down and try to regain my breath until the bell rang.

I can't believe the Mexican Government hasn't simply
surrounded the city and put a blockade into effect.
One that would allow only medical supplies to enter the city....I wonder just how much hunger those protesters would be willing to endure.....

I had more or less figured that out. Although I was making one of my usual lame attempts at humor, my story is true.

If they guy was from Indymedia, it can be assumed he was sympathetic to the rebels.

It will be interesting to find out who fired the fatal shots.
