In an Ironic Twist of Events, NBC and The CW Television Network Refuse to Air Ads for Documentary Focusing on Freedom of Speech
NBC Claims that the Network Cannot Accept These Spots as They are Disparaging to President Bush
The CW Television Network that the Network Does Not have Appropriate Programming in which to Schedule this Spot
NBC and The CW Television Network have taken a stand against the Dixies Chicks new documentary Shut Up & Sing a behind-the-scenes look at the incredible political and media fallout that occurred in 2003 after the Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines said that she was "ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas." Shut Up & Sing opens in theaters in NY and Los Angeles on Friday and in theaters nationwide on November 10th.
NBC responded to a clearance report submitted by the Weinstein Companys media agency saying that the network cannot accept these spots as they are disparaging to President Bush.
The CW Television Network responded that it does not have appropriate programming in which to schedule this spot.
Famed litigator David Boies stated, It is disappointing and troubling that NBC and The CW would refuse to accept an otherwise appropriate ad merely because it is critical of President Bush."
Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company stated, Its a sad commentary about the level of fear in our society that a movie about a group of courageous entertainers who were blacklisted for exercising their right of free speech is now itself being blacklisted by corporate America. The idea that anyone should be penalized for criticizing the president is sad and profoundly un-American.
The Weinstein Company is exploring taking legal action.

I think it's a ploy to get even more publicity for them....AND ....make the nation think the 'Right' is strongarming the networks....
Very disingenuous and Machiavellian!
(or am I finally paranoid!!)
It's almost like we (collectively) have no right to our free speech when we say "SHUT UP" to these three twits. Freedom of speech is NOT a guarantee of being heard.
I guess Weinstein would be infavor of forced purchase of the Dixie Twit's albums, too...

The reason NBC is rejecting this is not because "they are disparaging of President Bush", but because they are BLATANTLY disparaging of President Bush. The mainstream media will maintain their aura of objectivity even at the risk of squandering an opportunity to further the cause of electing liberals. Their claim of objectivity, long exposed as a lie among the masses, nonetheless remains of utmost importance to those within the cabal to maintain. For them, it is a psychological imperative.
The mainstream media does not need to be blatant and overt in their reporting. Theirs is a tactic of emphasis, subterfuge, and word-play, enabling them to maintain the pretense of objectivity.
I smell a shady PR campaign... based on "fake censorship" aided by NBC.
Personally, I don't care what entertainers think about anything except perhaps their craft. Audiences buy tickets to be entertained not to be ambushed with outbursts of emotions and ignorance. I'm not interested in their personal lives or their opinions on any subject most especially matters of national security, immigration, education, politics, child-rearing, medical research... whatever. If the Chicks want to have a political forum then do that but stop calling themselves "entertainers".
Evidently, FR has gotten to NBC, as well!!
The Diebold/Halliburton service group has the contract for coffee service at NBC. Coincidence? You be the judge!
(I'm just making this up)
Last night I was watching NBC local news at 11:00pm for fire update and I saw the ad for the Dixie Chicks movie. I swear it was NBC. It shocked me because I had just read about it on Drudge and thought, oh NBC changed their minds.
Na na na na hey hey hey say goodbye..............
