(CBS) Another apparent breach of classified material is under federal investigation at the nation's premier nuclear weapons laboratory: Los Alamos National Laboratory, sources tell CBS News correspondent Sharyl Attkisson.
The breach apparently was discovered when Los Alamos police recently conducted a methamphetamine raid on an area home. Inside the house, along with drug paraphernalia, police allegedly found classified materials apparently from the grounds of the Los Alamos Laboratory. How somebody involved in illegal drugs would also have access to classified materials from the nation's nuclear weapons facility is unknown but under investigation.
The home is believed to belong to a Los Alamos Laboratory contractor who does maintenance at the laboratory.
The FBI has been called in to lead the investigation into the security breach and executed a search warrant on Friday. The U.S. attorney's office in Albuquerque, N.M., is reviewing the case.
The Los Alamos Laboratory has been hit by multiple security and management scandals in recent years. Problems were so widespread that Congress forced the contract for management of the lab to go up for bid for the first time ever. However, after bidding, the contract was re-awarded to the same contractor: the University of California.
Los Alamos public affairs officials will only confirm the matter is under investigation.
I wonder if she perhaps had stolen the computer or at any rate the hard drive and sold or given it to the drug dealer, although without realizing or caring that there were documents on it. Did they ever find those missing hard drives?
As far as I recall, they did find all of the missing hard drives. Of course, a few turned up only several weeks later. Remember the drive that re-appeared behind a copy machine? After the area had already been searched by outside security professionals three times?
No, I missed that story. Very weird.
excuse me.....alternate universe thing again.
Auto-da-fe by HIV. Decision

LOL the collective IQ at CBS must be lower than the sum of broadcast channel numbers assigned to their affiliates (hint, they're each less that 14). Do they even read their own stuff? Let's see if we can come up with a theory:
"Oh, gee, maybe the homeowner Sandy Burglared the documents out, hoping to fund his other occupation?"
Wikipedia states that Clinton apologized for how this scientist was treated during the investigation. Now this scientist is suing the FBI, the Energy Department and other sources for hurting his reputation, receiving 1.6 Mil. There is proof that he transferred classified documents to 2 different unclassified networks - even at ULA. Plus, he didn't do well on his polygraphs concerning the nuclear bomb information. Information on every nuclear missile in the US arsenal was compromised including the recent W88 according to Wikipedia.
They let him go on all charges, but 1. The judge apologized during his trial and Clinton said he was deeply troubled by the way his case was handled.
The guy should have been tried for treason.
Kind of makes you wonder why the Chinese Monks (lol) were donating to the Clinton/Gore campaign back in '96.
A friend was doing non security work at the Livermore labs (also run by UC Berkeley). He had to use the bathroom. He had to be escorted down the hall and into the bathroom. They gave people in the area 60 seconds to close what they were working on or turn off their monitors. A person went into the bathroom ahead of him and announced that a person without security wsa entering and to stop all conversations. They also stayed in the bathroom with him. Not all of ythe UC run places are as bad aas Los Alamos.
Clinton is still romancing the Chinese.
A contractor who does maintenance at the lab: IOW, the lab outsources custodial services. My guess is the custodian was emptying waste paper baskets or the recycling bin and goes, "whoa!!! Whaz' this?" So if this is the case, who's really at fault? Unlocked file cabinet? Jammed paper shredder?
Clinton had the Los Alamos doors wide open. I'm sure there's lots more of this stuff just lying around some where. No one was watching the fort for 8 years.
The same way dead people can still vote democrat. The dead don't need their numbers anymore.
Lets see if this story falls off the face of the earth as quickly as the stolen harddrive story in 1999.
That suggests that all they have is a disk marked LANL and stamped SECRET.
I don't think they know what's on the disk yet.
So most of the articles are "filler".
When U.C. Berkeley is in charge. They think national security is a quaint historical reference and routinely violate security standards for handling and securing classified data. They probably leave classified material on their desks overnight.
There was a time when even the janitors had clearances.
U.C Berkeley is not in charge.....The U.C. system is in charge along with Bechtel, BWX Tenchologies and the Washington Group now.....
I hate it when someone tries to probe my breaches.
