CBS: Los Alamos Security Breach Probed

(CBS) Another apparent breach of classified material is under federal investigation at the nation's premier nuclear weapons laboratory: Los Alamos National Laboratory, sources tell CBS News correspondent Sharyl Attkisson.
The breach apparently was discovered when Los Alamos police recently conducted a methamphetamine raid on an area home. Inside the house, along with drug paraphernalia, police allegedly found classified materials apparently from the grounds of the Los Alamos Laboratory. How somebody involved in illegal drugs would also have access to classified materials from the nation's nuclear weapons facility is unknown but under investigation.
The home is believed to belong to a Los Alamos Laboratory contractor who does maintenance at the laboratory.
The FBI has been called in to lead the investigation into the security breach and executed a search warrant on Friday. The U.S. attorney's office in Albuquerque, N.M., is reviewing the case.
The Los Alamos Laboratory has been hit by multiple security and management scandals in recent years. Problems were so widespread that Congress forced the contract for management of the lab to go up for bid for the first time ever. However, after bidding, the contract was re-awarded to the same contractor: the University of California.
Los Alamos public affairs officials will only confirm the matter is under investigation.

well they haven't given the lab over to the Berkeley types....UC has run Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore Labs since they were founded after WWII.....mostly cause they have the best scientists in the U.S.....they have developed ALL our nukes....though their security has been lapse in the last several years.....Berkeley types as you call them have more top ten grad programs in the hard sciences then any other university in the land.....I hate Bezerkely politics.....but being a grad from there.....I can tell you they are second to none ......not even MIT has the same skills.....who do you think actually discovered Plutonium and most of the trans-uranium elements.....?????

haha.....Glenn T Seaborg......Prof Emeritus of Nuclear Chemistry and Physics.....most of the liberal crap is the city of Berkeley....the UC Campus now is actually not much worse then most other universities....mostly liberal....but when it comes to the scientists there...more Nobel Prize winners in the system then anywhere.....they don't give a crap about politics.....only the liberal arts wing of the university is wholesale liberal.....I even heard them joke about the whacko's of the old days.....
......I acknowledge the most people only know Bezerkely by the past BS there....but the academics especially in the graduate programs is only equaled by Stanford, Harvard and MIT......in science and engineering.....they beat even them.....

the handling protocol for them can sometimes be violated in a totally innocent way. BS. I "handled" classified material every day for 5 years in the Navy and never once violated procedure. If I had, I'd still be in jail today. Until people are prosecuted, they're not going to get serious about this.

Isn't this cleanup from another Clinton/Richardson fumble? yep - good thing for Richardson that he's a DemoRat - or instead of continuing in public office, he'd have been behind bars for years now

Am I missing something? or did they leave out the whole '90's Los Alamos laptop/hard drive Clinton record? Shh! You're not supposed to remember that part!
We have a legacy to protect, you know!

Did Richardson ever get reprimanded?

Isn't this cleanup from another Clinton/Richardson fumble? Actually, a lot of the things billyBoy gave to the Chinese, No. Korea, etc, could have been simply the old compromising information/blackmail scenario.
BillyBoy always brags on "winning" a Rhodes Scholarship. However, it's never mentioned that he didn't graduate - didn't finish out his 2 years. There's stories coming out as to why - His behavior, which we now are all to familiar with, may have been known long before we ever heard of him - known in England - where he was, evidently, told he was no longer welcome, and very probably in Russia, where he went after England - where he went as a young college hippie, at a time visas were all but impossible - years before the Wall came down.

" How somebody involved in illegal drugs would also have access to classified materials from the nation's nuclear weapons facility is unknown but under investigation." Ever hear of random drug testing?
This means we have crystal heads with top secret clearances in sensitive areas trading national secrets for methamphetamine. These people should be stood against a wall and shot.

.....secret documents, which agents traced back to a woman linked to the drug dealer.....The woman is a contract employee at Los Alamos National Laboratory.....appeared to contain classified material and were stored on a computer file. Yes, that does sound like she was selling secrets to pay for drugs.

I can see that as ammo for those who want to make all drugs legal so they won't be worth doing this over
imo, if drugs were legal, this would be a nation full of sombies... for a short time ... then, the survivors would be islamic slaves
