I used to look at veiled women as quiet, oppressed creatures -- until I was captured by the Taliban. In September 2001, just 15 days after the terrorist attacks on the United States, I snuck into Afghanistan, clad in a head-to-toe blue burqa, intending to write a newspaper account of life under the repressive regime. Instead, I was discovered, arrested and detained for 10 days. I spat and swore at my captors; they called me a "bad" woman but let me go after I promised to read the Koran and study Islam. Under an assumed name, I made a recent experiment on a community on livejournal - I created an account, and I posted random un-attributed passages from the Koran, and from the Hadith. A regular (who I know to be female) quickly swooped on me and demanded to know why I was making such mysogynistic posts.
Fairly rapidly someone else popped up and explained that my posts were quotations from Islamic texts.
About seven minutes later, the original complainer was posting again saying that she hadn't realised that, and the when she had looked into it, Islam was a very interesting religion.
Shortly afterwards my thread was deleted.
I hope to repeat the experiment, and that time be on hand to get screenshots of it,
My point is, that certain demented fools are willing to overlook things that disgust them in many and extraordinary ways.
I am no feminist, but to accept the veil is to accept a subservient position. This woman appears to be undergoing a serious psychological process.
Islam is, was, and remains a crazy, made up religion.
Lady (and I'm being extremely polite, considering the feminazi who wrote the piece), you can't demand respect by wearing a veil, just like you can't demand respect on any other grounds than being...respectable. If you've got problems, they're of your own making. If you can't gain respect by being respectable, you're not worthy to get it from me. Plus, you're a moonbat.

She says, "I hate the term 'suicide bombers' it's an offensive term which was invented by the West to ridicule what many people regard as 'martyrdom operations' and you have to look at each one in context.
In how many Islamic countries can women vote, drive, wear a T-shirt or shorts, speak freely, live as single woman, or sue for divorce? In pursuit of their spirituality, how many can march around Kaaba in Mecca? How many can have multiple spouses, or unmarried lovers as men are allowed?
She is correct, however, in that the plight of women under Islam has not greatly changed in 1400 years.
