The emphasis is mine. I had to do some serious editing to fit within the 300 word excerpt requirement. The whole piece is well worth the time to read.

Colin McNickle is the Trib's director of editorial pages [a paper owned by Richard Mellon Scaife, i.e., not a liberal rag]. Ring him at (412) 320-7836. E-mail him at: cmcnickle@tribweb.com.

I see you're still here trying to trash the GOP. You've been doing it since the day you signed up.

Just like a lot of us thought, you're a troll.

You go ahead and put your personal agenda before the rest of the country; the rest of us will be doing what we've been doing for years; trying to bring this country back where it belongs since the Democrats trashed it for 40 years.

I am tired of these MORONS who believe that losing is winning. It is TREASON to knowingly, purposefully NOT vote, when doing so can/will result in the TRUE enemies of the Constitution being put into power....

And this "there is no difference" crap is CHILDISH, but more importantly, DANGEROUSLY wrong...It is true that conservatives WANT far MORE difference between the two major parties...but it is goofy to spit this "no difference" B.S. !!!!

Any person who starts out with the phrase I WAS a republican voter but not anymore....., makes me highly suspicious.

You can be ticked off at your party but to vote Democrat in retaliation or to teach the republicans a lesson is idiotic and suicidal.

The 50% that is delivered by the Republicans is far better than the 100% that the Democrats will inflict.

The time to deliver a spanking to RINOs is in the primaries. This is Perot redux.

If you are a malcontent conservative, then stay at home.

The dems went from the majority to the minority by letting the inmates on their extreme left run the asylum.

The republicans must stay away from this and kick the conservative extremists to the curb. A center right coalition is what wins.

Oh Yes! Let's trade the GOP's wooden paddle for the Democrat's spiked club!!!
In case this guy was taking a long spring nap, he must have missed PA conservatives tossing 16 of their RINO incumbents in the primaries for more conservative representation. You CLEAN HOUSE IN THE PRIMARIES, AND THEN YOU MAKE THE BEST WITH THE TEAM YOU'VE GOT UNTIL THE NEXT PRIMARIES. Geesh. Even Little Leaguers understand this elememtary concept.

I'll breathlessly await the counterpart article that tells Democrats to "teach their leadership a lesson" by voting Republican.

YEAH! Let's allow the pro-abortion, anti-gun, pro-gay marriage, terrorist appeasing, tax raising, open borders, big government Democrats run the show for a few decades. That'll teach those wascally Webuplicans a lesson they'll never forget!

You know what cracks me up about all this?

If we lose the House, Republicans are going to think they have to be MORE moderate and when they run again, it will be from a left of center position.

So freepers and voters who think it's wise to deliver a lesson and not vote are just plain naive.

While a Democrat controlled Congress seething with hatred for Bush might consume all of its time crafting an impeachment, I'm worried about other consequences. The cut and run crowd will do everything it can to withdraw forces from Iraq, largely by defunding the war. This will leave our service men and women unequipped and more vulnerable to the insurgents. This cut and run will also embolden Islamic fascists worldwide and I think would be a prelude to more 9-11 size attacks on US soil.

The BIG SMACK you will hear is the Impeachment of George W Bush, the ending of Tax Cuts, the end of Conservative SCOTUS Judges. It makes no sense to me to vote in [by not voting for the GOP] Nancy Pelosi as Speaker, John Conyers as Judiciary Chairman, Rangel as Ways & Means Chairman with Robert KKK Byrd as the 3rd in line for the Presidency. [VP-Speaker-Byrd]

However the total abandonment of our TROOPS by a non vote is IMHO completely disgraceful. The chances that Iraq will be lost increases a hundred fold, resulting in the TERRORISTS obtaining a NEW base of operation, completely destabilizing the Middle East and OBL WINS!!!

The time to change the Republicans' behavior is in the primaries, not in the general election. If you want conservative candidates, work to get them elected in your primary ballots.

But voting in the socialists in the general election is certainly not going to cure the problem: it will just exacerbate it.

With the Dems back in control we can expect them to be lunier than ever. Gay rights written into the Constitution along with abortion and ban Christians from talking anywhere. Appoint only judges that make the 9th circus court of appeals look conservative. Look to European laws to interpret our Constitution or why not Russian or Chinese or any other kook views that support the left wing radical agenda. YUKKKK!!!

People like Colin McNickle, whom Rush has termed "cut and run conservatives," are now functioning as useful idiots for the Democrats.

If the Republicans lose because the conservative base stays home, the news media and the Democratic Party are NOT going to credit these conservatives with this turn of events. They are NOT going to say that the Republicans lost because they weren't conservative enough for their base. They are going to say that the Republicans lost because voters have moved to the left and because they don't like the Bush administration. In other words, the cut and run conservatives won't get any of the "credit" for a Democrat victory this fall.
Instead the media and liberals will spin this as a victory for "liberalism" and the only lesson that moderate Republicans will learn is that they weren't liberal enough.

We not only have the outcome of war in Iraq to consider or the possibility of impeachment to worry about if the Democrats win, there will also be alot of other bad consequences. A Democrat-controlled Senate will block the confirmation of any pro-life judicial nominees. Is that what you stalwart cut and run conservatives want? A pro-abortion House and Senate? Because that is what you will get if the Democrats win.

Spare me the hypocrisy of people like McNickle.
