The emphasis is mine. I had to do some serious editing to fit within the 300 word excerpt requirement. The whole piece is well worth the time to read.

I'm not sure how electing a democratic congress strengthens the GOP.

No matter what, the media (which is the first draft of history) will write this as a victor for liberalism. They will spin the spanking as a repudiation of the war in Iraq and republican corruption, not as an attempt to purge big government leanings from the GOP.

Problem is, the disaster which would ensue from any sort of a major demokkkrat electoral victory at this point would be non-survivable for the nation. I'm still voting against dems. I vote for whowever has the best mathematical shot at preventing the dem from holding the public office, which is usually a republican.

Reads like more "suppress the republican vote"

Look, I agree with allot of what he's saying, but he's an IDIOT if he'd rather have the DNC in power just ot teach a few RINO's a lesson.

"A party base that's mad as hell and no longer willing to rationalize GOP failures..."

So you don't vote, or vote third party, or what?

Let the democrats win so you can complain that the GOP should have done better?

This is an utter load of manure.

This is just brilliant. Giving control of the government to the Rats -- cutting off my head to spite my face -- helps me....how, exactly?

When was the last time you saw an article about liberal voters punishing the Democratic Party by letting the GOP take more power?

'I am your typical Republican "supervoter." .... ' who has never given a dime to the Party.

As a conservative, who happens to be a registered republican, since the GOP relatively represents my principles, voting the "stupid party" out to let the "traitor party" into power would be smart for what reason????

My tagline says it all.

We shape the parties in the primaries, and give the parties power in the general election. It is far, far easier to shape the Pubbie party than to create and empower a new one from whole cloth.

If you can't shape the Republican Party in the primaries, it is ridiculous to think you would be able to empower a new party. Channel your frustration more productively into promoting libertarian and conservative ideals within the Party.

It's the Rats party that is having the far more serious problems addressed by this opinion piece.

Look, folks, it's time to take a stand. Returning this current crew of Republicans to power will only embolden them to spend more time, not less, off the conservative reservation.

The time to "take a stand" was during the prelude to the Republican primaries.

Now, that course of action is analogous to turning your daughter over to the Boston Strangler because her current boy friend got a tattoo, never takes a shower and spends too much time playing video games.

The next Congressional primaries are less than 2 years away. Hold your nose, vote AGAINST the greater evil in 2006 and start grooming better Republican candidates for the 2008 primaries NOW.

The "spanking" was supposed to occur during the primary. This can be successfully done, as it was done in the Alaska primary for governor.

Now it's too late - the question is whether one wants to see a spendthrift Republican Congress or a completely socialist Democrat one.

Regards, Ivan

I'm as fed up with faux conservatism in the Republican Party as anyone, but as it was in 2002 and 2004 it is today: the WOT trumps everything. I won't send a protest vote with the Ls, I won't stay home, and I certain won't vote for "change."

Put the Democrats in congress and the senate and we're done in Iraq. And that sends the same message to our enemies as they received after the 1993 WTC bombing; the USS Cole et. al.

While the Republicans have done nothing significant to stop the growth of the size and scope of the federal government, we're still fighting a war.

If we give up now we will have lost.

It's time to "take a stand", burn down the 'Big Tent' and toss the 3rd party pukes out of the GOP. They have proven time and time again to be nothing more than tools of the left. Where was their urgency to elect conservatives in the PRIMARY???

This jerk needs to put his money where his mouth is. Instead of coming out just before an election and trying to get fed-up conservatives to sit it out, he should be working during the non-election years to seek out and promote those leaders with whom he agrees.
Most of us agree that we need more real conservatives in office but it does not make sense to throw out the rinos unless we have someone viable to take their places. That means putting our money and efforts behind those who can make a difference. It does not mean waiting until it's too late and whining about it.
