Deliver a Spanking
The Pittsburgh Tribune Review ^ | October 22, 2006 | Colin McNickle

Posted on 10/22/2006 8:49:20 AM PDT by Conservative Goddess

I am your typical Republican "supervoter." .... But I'm seriously considering ending that streak this Nov. 7. ...

I'm also a contrarian -- a conservative with libertarian leanings. Combine all these characteristics, then mix in the aggregate Republican record, allow the ire it has created to rise and bake it for a few years and here's what comes out of the oven:

A party base that's mad as hell and no longer willing to rationalize GOP failures. It's a base whose crust grows darker and thicker -- i.e., angrier -- when prominent conservatives and Republicans -- politicians, pundits, radio talk-show hosts and think tankers sensing impending electoral doom -- pop out of their pumpkins and upbraid the watered-on for complaining about being wet.

....

...Pay no attention to the recidivists behind the curtain who, once every two years or four or six, make grand promises of fealty to conservative and party principles only to repeatedly fail to deliver. ... What's the definition of insanity again? In this case it's constantly returning Republicans to power and having the audacity to expect different results. And what could be more stupid than that?

....

Look, folks, it's time to take a stand. Returning this current crew of Republicans to power will only embolden them to spend more time, not less, off the conservative reservation. This is no time to dance the Rationalization Rumba. It is time for the GOP base to deliver a very big SMACK. It's the only way to start the process of true Republican/conservative reclamation.

Fellow Republicans and conservatives, do what you must on Nov. 7. But I, for one, refuse to yet again enter my polling place, vote for the usual GOP suspects...

It's time for the long-spanked to do some spanking.

I don't think the MSM had the brains and where for all to start something like this. No I think a group that has infiltrated the Republican party started it....IMHO

I absolutely agree on both your points. I think it was started by Democrats and the 3rd party people are pushing it and some people are falling for it.

Do me a favor a teach them a lesson after I'm dead and gone and so are my grandchildren.

OK, but with the xenophile RINOs and sadly, the President, it will have to be in Spanish.

I'll cover it in the same lesson block that contains the history of the Whig Party.

We won by putting a lot of pressure on the President and on Congress, and by having enough Republicans in the Senate to make the pressure count.

There you go, making sense again!

Right now the choice is a bad one.

Support RINOs and advance liberalism in the Republican Party, or sit at home or vote Democrat and let the Rats take over the Congressional Commuters and engineer another cowardly departure under fire from Iraq which will invigorate the Muslims and be most detrimental to America's best interests.

Unfortunately there is only one choice here.

The time to kick the RINOs in their respective butts was in primary elections. MORE conservative and grass-roots Republicans need to take an active voice in primary elections, campaign for conservative Republicans, attack the RINOs, and fund Republican conservative campaigns.
The other thing to do is band together and send people like McCain, etc long petitions making it very clear that their fate in the primaries lays in adhering to Republican principles.

If, after 2008, that doesn't work then it will be time to form a third political party and let the RINOs wither on the vine.

Until then, hold your nose against the stench and vote Republican.

Go back and check some of the immigration threads around the time of those big rallies by illegals. It's real, but it's being pumped up by the MSM for their own nefarious purposes.

I know there has been some whiners but I don't think it was an actual movement until someone started it hoping it would gain momentum.

Voting for third party candidates or not voting at all in a particular election is a good way to get rid of RINOs. We have GOT to let the moderates who control the party to know that there is only so much we will tolerate.

And to think all these same people were laughing at the nutty left trying to take over the Dem party and purging it of people like Lieberman. Ha Ha Ha. Demanding purity in liberal-land!

Looks like we've birthed our own nutroots on the right...except the MSM will call them right-wing extremists in this instance.

Saddest of all, if the GOP manages to hold on to its majorities, they'll know they've come within an inch of their lives and I think the first thing they'll do is address spending. But then, we have to vote for them to find out, so we may never know.

Show me a Congressional race where the Democrat is more conservative than the Republican. I'll wait for your answer. You won't wait long. I don't know of a single one.

I agree with you—and I was one who was willing to wait and see on Miers, but of course thrilled with Alito.

I am simply addressing the point at which I began to notice some frustration with "drift" among other conservatives. Not anger mind you, but maybe more of a disappointment. You could certainly hear it among the talkers.

Anyway, like I said previously, I think the whole "anger" issue is wishful thinking on the part of the opposition.

It is just that I hate to see people say "Oh, well, that's the way it is"

Nobody wants to change it. Why do we have to keep getting a bad product given to us then we are expected to buy it? If we keep buying it they will never improve it.

Yes I am though probably not as much as I could be. The Republican party here in Indiana is pretty conservative and for that I am grateful. I support local candidates financially and with my time, and my wife works the polls for the party. What is frustrating though has been watching the national party become so Dem-lite. I have stopped supporting the national party financially and have told them why both on the phone and by email. I have little belief that they care. I blame those at the top for that. Our President is not a conservative(campaign finance reform, No Child Left Behind & Amnesty are just a few of the issues that come to mind that he has either supported or not fought against) and that attitude filters down I am afraid. His handlers are also not conservatives, but rather big government power brokers who have sold way to many on this site on the idea that big government isn't the problem it is who controls the big government that is important.

I appreciate your thoughtful response, they are rare these days on FR. What was once a site where one could come and expect reasoned discussion on a variety of topics political and otherwise has become a partisan site where those that disagree with the Bush/party line are ridiculed and demeaned. That's too bad.

My thoughts are this:

If you must clean house, do it in the primaries; if you have tried to do it once before, like we did with Toomey, and it didn't work, keep trying.

Support your party. If your going to be a Republican, then vote Republican, if your a constitutionist, then get your party stronger and get on the ballot and vote that way, but don't 'cut and run conservative' our party that we are trying to strengthen....
