Deliver a Spanking
The Pittsburgh Tribune Review ^ | October 22, 2006 | Colin McNickle

Posted on 10/22/2006 8:49:20 AM PDT by Conservative Goddess

I am your typical Republican "supervoter." .... But I'm seriously considering ending that streak this Nov. 7. ...

I'm also a contrarian -- a conservative with libertarian leanings. Combine all these characteristics, then mix in the aggregate Republican record, allow the ire it has created to rise and bake it for a few years and here's what comes out of the oven:

A party base that's mad as hell and no longer willing to rationalize GOP failures. It's a base whose crust grows darker and thicker -- i.e., angrier -- when prominent conservatives and Republicans -- politicians, pundits, radio talk-show hosts and think tankers sensing impending electoral doom -- pop out of their pumpkins and upbraid the watered-on for complaining about being wet.

....

...Pay no attention to the recidivists behind the curtain who, once every two years or four or six, make grand promises of fealty to conservative and party principles only to repeatedly fail to deliver. ... What's the definition of insanity again? In this case it's constantly returning Republicans to power and having the audacity to expect different results. And what could be more stupid than that?

....

Look, folks, it's time to take a stand. Returning this current crew of Republicans to power will only embolden them to spend more time, not less, off the conservative reservation. This is no time to dance the Rationalization Rumba. It is time for the GOP base to deliver a very big SMACK. It's the only way to start the process of true Republican/conservative reclamation.

Fellow Republicans and conservatives, do what you must on Nov. 7. But I, for one, refuse to yet again enter my polling place, vote for the usual GOP suspects...

It's time for the long-spanked to do some spanking.

People like Colin McNickle, whom Rush has termed "cut and run conservatives," are now functioning as useful idiots for the Democrats.

If the Republicans lose because the conservative base stays home, the news media and the Democratic Party are NOT going to credit these conservatives with this turn of events. They are NOT going to say that the Republicans lost because they weren't conservative enough for their base. They are going to say that the Republicans lost because voters have moved to the left and because they don't like the Bush administration. In other words, the cut and run conservatives won't get any of the "credit" for a Democrat victory this fall.
Instead the media and liberals will spin this as a victory for "liberalism" and the only lesson that moderate Republicans will learn is that they weren't liberal enough.

We not only have the outcome of war in Iraq to consider or the possibility of impeachment to worry about if the Democrats win, there will also be alot of other bad consequences. A Democrat-controlled Senate will block the confirmation of any pro-life judicial nominees. Is that what you stalwart cut and run conservatives want? A pro-abortion House and Senate? Because that is what you will get if the Democrats win.

Spare me the hypocrisy of people like McNickle.

Boooo Hoooo Hoooo! So our RINOP is a bunch of kneepad wearing Dem-worshippers - big fat hairy deal, and tell us something we don't know!

How'd that work out for Perzel? Or Jubilier? Or Brightbill? The grassroots kicked RINO ASS in the primaries. And the RINOP can hear us all sharpening our swords for the next primaries. As far as I'm concerned, voting Swann, their sacrificial lamb, into office would be the best way to piss off Rendell and all his entitled RINO sockpuppets.

But you go right ahead and throw a tantrum if you want to. Hold your breath til you're blue in the face, so you match the color of the party you bring to power. You, of the psychologically revealing screen name, are either a troll, or woefully ignorant of reality.

If we lose the House, Republicans are going to think they have to be MORE moderate and when they run again, it will be from a left of center position.

I think that you are correct. The next lot of candidates would want to get more votes, and they would follow the old prescription to move to the center, not to the right.

Voting for Democrats will just get you more Democrats, now and in the future. Voting for the Republicans will at least give us a chance to move the Republicans more to the right.

You know, as frustrated as I get with my own team sometimes...

I would just as soon deliver that spanking to the msm and the leftist cut and runners. The hysterical response is just way more fun.

I also think that there is a financial interest for mr. McNickle.

A democrat congress would let him run negative stories for the great "unwashed conservatives" out there thus helping boost his circulation, it's cynical and selfish.

I can't wait for the morning of Novemebr 8th for the long faces of both the democrats and also the so-called "conservative" media.

I totally agree .. and if that should happen - we can expect hundreds of 9/11's. The terrorists will presume we are too weak to fight them and they will unleash terror all over America.

Guess I better think more seriously about learning how to shoot a firearm.

"As for those Democrats who likely are to gain power, they're so bad that their return tenure will be a very brief blip -- just enough time to scare the pants off the American people and better set the stage for real conservatives and real Republicans to rise again and start setting this country straight."

I cannot buy this. It makes no sense. The Venezuelans somehow let Hugo Chavez get into power. I doubt that anything is going to remove him now that he's on top. People say, "Why haven't the Cubans overthrown Castro's oppressive regime?". Answer: they can't.

Don't we see that if you let the Devil get one foot in the door we won't be able to close the door and prevent his complete entry? Don't stay home election day and let the Chavez-type Demonrats into power. You may be very sorry when it's too leta.

" I'm also a contrarian -- a conservative with libertarian leanings."

Has anyone ever met a libertarian who wasn't a crank- constantly bitching and moaning about NAFTA or some other single issue ?
Has a libertarian ever won any elected office ?
They're like ticks that attach themselves to the Republicans and try and bleed us dry with their threats every single election.
I have no patience for these selfish, one issue, holier than thou narcissists and their petty attempts to scuttle what a lot of us have worked very hard for.
A true conservative and patriot would never threaten to turn Congress over to those who are guaranteed to surrender to terrorists.

It's political suicide. There could be one or two more Supreme Court vacancies before Bush leaves. Do you really think that a liberal Democratic Senate will accept someone like Clarence Thomas or John Roberts to the Supreme Court?

The Republican party, particularly in the state of PA, is filthy, rotten, putrid to the core. We can't wait to clean this mess up.

I don't know where to begin.......

The truth is, that I am angry as hell too! What a lot of pundits are missing, is that there are not one, but two segments of the party base that are PO'd and looking for retribution.

There is the far right single issue bunch, comprised of evangelicals, and border security groups who have slightly differing issues, but all feel like they have been stiff armed by the party. And then there is the larger moderate groups who have been slighted by the die hard conservatives, and called a variety of names, insulted and essentially shoved aside for believes that don;t measure up to the purist's among us.

Yes, we are pissed, but the time to act on these feelings has passed! We had that chance during the primary.

We now need to put these feelings aside, go to the polls and reelect out republican majority, in spite of our disdain and anger.

If we do not, we not have any further chances because regaining power, once lost is a difficult thing to do. The party in power makes it so, and assures incumbent reelection unless by some mathematical unlikelihood, it can take advantage of a major scandal and thus cause the party in power to fail in it's reelection effort.

This is what is happening to us, and the MSM is fully on board to enable the Dems to regain power by stirring contempt and anger in our ranks.

As I said, the time for retribution is over. We now must vote our slate of candidates back into office, such as they are. We then can do more house cleaning in the next primary.

The future of this country is at stake.

Go to the damn poll and vote republican, or you will regret it, and no amount of finger pointing will cure the disease you will have brought to our government.

Oh, and forget about any extensions whatsoever of the Bush tax cuts (not the Howard Phillips or Harry Browne or I Stayed Home on Election Day tax cuts, the BUSH tax cuts).

I agree.
There HAS to be a way to punish the GOP without punishing ourselves with a Dem controlled congress. It is just TOO abhorrent to imagine!

Good morning.
"I hear Hillary is changing parties. Are you still sticking with that?"

Slick answer, but the other FReeper wrote "usually a republican."

I think we would still be able to vote Republican because the Hildebeast would never make it out of the primaries as one.

If she did, the "usually" part would come into effect.

It's a sobering thought though, isn't it.
