Chicago: Urgent Action Alert
21 October 2006 | Garnet Dawn

Posted on 10/21/2006 3:45:31 AM PDT by SheLion

URGENT CALL TO ACTION -

I hope you are already aware that I  (Garnet Dawn) have been invited to testify at the upcoming Senate Hearing on this coming Monday at 10:00 a.m. in downtown Chicago. In last Spring's session, the state-wide smoking ban proposal in the General Assembly only passed the House. Now, the Senate would like to review the entire state-wide smoking issue before reconvening in November during their upcoming hearing. We have also just added Jim Blogg (Forces Illinois) as a speaker.

This is a State Assembly sponsored hearing, to be held in their building and chambers, but the ACS seems to be promoting that they will be running the show, as shown in their newsletter message below. We have a fair chance. The Democratic Senate Committee contacted me. They want to hear from us!!

Pro-choice advocates, smokers, non-smokers (who do not support smoking bans), restaurant / bowling / bar / business owners and defenders of our Constitution and Bill of Rights need to pack the room too!!!

PLEASE, if it is in any way possible for you to attend this hearing in Chicago..... GO!!! We need to show our Illinois representatives that we CARE!

See the links below for details and let you family and friends know too! Bring a group!!!

We NEED your help....unless you want a state-wide ban in Illinois.

BE THERE IF YOU CARE!!!!

You can't legislate morality or health.

I'm starting to get a clue. If you are not PC, we will take away your rights...plain and simple... no free speach, no uppity writing, no smoking, no guns. The list goes on and continues to grow.

Hm.

Frankly, I would think that bowling alley owners would enjoy having their businesses open to people with asthma and allergies. Also to folks who don't want their clothes to wreak.

I know, I know.... "let the market decide." Markets are not necessarily truly free, even when they do decide without government intervention. I don't know of a non-stinking bowling alley within driving distance of anywhere I've ever lived that I'm free to choose, on a weekend night.

Then again, I'm not much of a bowler, to say nothign of being one of those folks who like to sit at a drinking trough staring at all the bottles.

I was quoting Barry Goldwater about morality. Cigarette smoking is bad for one's health. I added health to the aphorism.

This new nanny movement is sickening, in Arizona too.

In Texas, too. One state lawmaker, Rodney Ellis, (Dem-Houston) wants to ban indoor smoking in any public place to protect people's health.

In a statement, Senator Ellis says twenty states have banned indoor smoking. Texas wouldn't be taking the lead in this parade. He adds that he expects it to have bi-partisan support. He plans to propose the measure in the next Texas legislative session, this January.

Have you ever smelt rented bowling shoes????  LOL  ~whew!

Anyway, hubby and I bowled for years on Loring Air Force Base.  The bowling center had 4 huge smoke eaters on the ceiling.  No smoke smell and when we smoked, you could just see the whip of smoke going upward until it disappeared.

Many bowlers smoke and drink beer!  Especially the men's leagues.

Plus, most kids bowled on Saturday mornings.  If kids were brought in at night for the leagues, the parents brought them.  And smoke or not, they sure weren't worried about smoke hurting their little kiddies!

People who have asthma have inhalers to carry with them in case they get an attack.  I've never known a bowler with acute asthma anyway.  How on earth do you think they couldl lift a 14 pound ball and throw it down the alley for  10-12 frames????  If they are that bad on, they would not bowl.  Takes a lot of stamina.

WREAK???  I think you mean reek.

Well, their clothes can easily be washed.  Personal hygiene goes a long way.

Personally, I think you are just trying to be a meanie here.

LET THE PRIVATE BUSINESS DECIDE!

OIC.  I didn't know he said that.

As for smoking being bad for ones health, well lots of things are bad for our health!  Want to ban all those as well?

We adults make our own choices.  And if no one points a gun to our head to make us smoke.  So if you don't smoke, I wouldn't worry about it.

Isn't it funny how they say "public place" when it comes to restaurants (not franchise), bars, taverns, bowling alleys and sports inns!  When in fact, these businesses are PRIVATE!

Public property: That which is purchased and maintained by tax dollars for the benefit of all people.

Private property: That which is not purchased or maintained by tax dollars and is for the benefit of the property owner.
