CHARLESTON, S.C. --Sen. John Kerry, returning to the state where he began his quest for the presidency, thanked supporters Friday and said he has no problem campaigning in heavily Republican South Carolina.

"You just bled and worked your hearts out, notwithstanding how red some people may think South Carolina is," the Massachusetts Democrat told about 75 people at a rally for Randy Maatta, a Democrat running in the state's 1st Congressional District.

"We came within one state. We came within 59,000 votes of setting this country on a better track," said Kerry, recalling how he opened his presidential campaign across town. "I'm here today because that fight continues."

Kerry began his 2004 presidential run with an announcement in front of the aircraft carrier Yorktown in nearby Mount Pleasant.

He later said it was "not tough at all" campaigning in a red state.

It may not be tough for Kerry to campaign in a red state (manners are manners after all).

But Johnny boy? The fact that it's a RED state means you didn't WIN it.

"We came within 59,000 votes of setting this country on a better track"

WHAT? Bush beat his a$$ by 3.5 MILLION votes, and he killed him in Ohio alone by 120,000. That's more, I believe, than the difference between Gore and Bush in 2000.

That boat he's pictured in is just heading up de Nile, ain't it?

All we heard from the Dims in 2000 was how the Electoral College was an anachronism that should be done away with, and that only the popular vote should be used to determine the POTUS. Funny how they embraced the Electoral College in 2004, when President Bush thumped Kerry by over 3 million votes in the popular vote, isn't it?

75 people? Wow, no wonder he did so well in 2004!

So if only 59,000 people had switched, and he had won Ohio and the presidency, but still had gotten fewer votes nationally, that would have been OK? What happened to how the Dems screamed "the person with the most votes should be president!?"

We came within 59,000 votes of setting this country on a better track," intoned Kerry

If a few thousand voters in New Hampshire voted for Bush instead of Kerry, Ohio wouldn't have mattered.

He's wasting his time talking to a red neck NASCAR, crowd.

What a jerk.

John F. Kerry, ex-Dem pres candidate, expected smooth sailing as he
breezed in for a rally today to announce his opponents were all wet.

Popular vote doesn't count. However, the 120,000 votes is what Kerry is talking about. If he gets 60,001 more votes in Ohio, the he beats Bush because you have to take those votes from Bush.

I wonder how it would have played out if Kerry lost by over 3 million votes but won the electoral college. Would DU and KOS said he stole the election?

Since its the spooky season.....

Kerry also bears a striking resemblance to the evil doctor in "re-animator". Makes the film even more frightning!

LOL! I love those pics of him. I can't wait for him to "officially" announce that he's running for President, again. I have lots of graphics left over from last time. It's going to be so much fun posting them, again. He writes his own stuff, because he's such a dork.

Oh, and that limp wrist of a football throw. "Yethir! Here is coooooomes Thewart!!"
