John Stuart Mill once famously called the British Tories "The Stupid Party." From time to time since then, the Tory's American cousin, the Republican Party, has also earned that moniker. Now may be one of those moments. If current polls and anecdotes are to be believed, there may be a million or two conservative Republicans who are planning to not vote this November.

BTW, this "do nothing" President has pulled us out of the ICC, Kyoto, toppled the Taliban, Saddam Hussein and his evil spawn sons, Qadaffi, and presided over the most robust economic recovery in DECADES while having to deal with the fall-out of the worst terrorist disaster on our soil and the worst natural disaster on our soil, while withstanding the daily, hourly assault of the treasonous media and treasonous left. The ONLY reason nothing has gotten done by Congress is the obstructionist perfidy of the left.
And, more importantly, you "outed" yourself with your ACLU-like complaints about the "patriot Act". The ONLY people who are concerned with curtailment of civil liberties in the Patriot Act are the same ones who are in favor of terrorist protection. Go try to sell THAT one somewhere where people don't know better.

Well, there is a load of differences on social issues, taxes, judges, etc., when you think about it. I am holding my nose (with both hands) and voting.

No matter which party you vote for, once in office, they will do what they what they want to do after each election, regardless as to what lies they presented prior to election.

The real world IS what it IS.
When political parties were created, no one could tell how they would actually work in the real world...no crystal balls available. Sadly,you have set up a criteria in which YOUR ideal must be met or else all is lost.
It doesn't surprise ME that there's not a lockstep guaranteed performance in office between voters and their representatives. There is SOME correlation, though. The Republicans Reps resemble their voters somewhat and Democrats Reps resemble their voters somewhat, MUCH more than either party represents the other side's voters or people who don't bother to vote.
And the political environment is not as static as you imply. Voters can change over time, marginally, if not an about face, and so can their representatives. Circumstances also change and both voter and rep must react to these. There must be room for these changes...some of which are in the wrong direction and some of which are right...in our assessment of the political system, because they WILL occur in the real world.
The COURTS are the most responsible for a ruling-by-elite edict situation that IS of deep concern to me. Courts have become more like our dictators than mere interpreters of law. It isn't that the other branches are free of problems, but their greatest fault is probably their reluctance to reign in the dictatorial courts, and in the appointments that have been made to courts through the years. Strict constructionism has NOT held sway in those appointments, whether Republicans or Democrats were leading .
What is needed is a wholesale change in what has gone on for years, and it would have to be gradual. We didn't get this way overnight but over decades.
Only the Republican party with a conservative bent can get that done. To do so, conservative Republican representatives must have voters that support and push them in that direction. As well as a Republican President who will appoint the right people to our judiciary.
With a tagline like yours, I'm wasting my time if I were aiming these comments to you. You were the catalyst, however, and maybe someone else will read them and be influenced to participate in our political system.
I normally don't say this, because I try not to get personal in thread discussions, but F U!! Just because I question the reasons for new laws being passed does not mean I support terrorists. My son just returned from his 3rd tour in Iraq, and I served during the first Gulf War. I know what terrorists are, bud. To question my patriotism is beyond absurd, it's insulting.
If you think that the Patriot Act will not be used against American citizens at some future date, you are gullible beyond belief.

For me the choice is clear. Either I want more judges to undercut our War on Terror, or I don't. Voting to keep Republican control in both houses of Congress is the only way I see to protect the most basic right of the American People: the Right to Live.
