Yes, for one simple reason. It is much easier to persuade an otherwise acceptable Pub to come over to the side of the Second Amendment than it is to convince a Dim to become conservative on any issue. A Pub usually leans towards anti-Second Amendment based on understandable moral grounds. Dims tend to be just plain unreasonable beyond hope.
