Its crazy when a guy in WV gets a prompt e-mail bulletin and the folks in Hawaii can't get accurate details.

I hope everyone is safe. FWIW, FOX now saying little likelihood of tsunami's.

6.7 is pretty significant - especially for those in high rise hotels.

Our Northridge was just slightly stronger, and it was a humdinger!

Coastal Alaska has 6.- magnitude quakes fairly regularly, mostly in the outlying areas. But occasionally, one is felt in a populated area. Valdez experienced at least one while I was there, and more likely two. The difference between the two was considerable. One was a sharp, LOUD jolt that knocked us off our feet, spilled dishes out of the cupboards, rattled EVERYTHING, and set trees and power poles to swaying. The second was a more rolling, "wave" type, but trees were swaying, wooden buildings were moving and creaking, water in fish tanks sloshed out, and power lines jumped wildly.

No one was hurt in either shake, and they were quite the adventure. And they can sure get your adrenalin pumping!
