My parents are in Hawaii also (Maui) and that's what they are bummed about now. LOL. No power in any of the sports bars at the other hotels. And regular stations in the places with power only can get news.

They keep SMSing asking for details. Apparently my score updates aren't sufficient. Ha.

Wow, a big one. I could hear it coming several seconds before it hit. I ran to the front door as it sounded like a train was about to hit me. It fairly shook up the house and knocked things off the shelves. Didn't break anything here but next door at my daughters it broke some vases and flower pots etc. Nothing of great concern though. After shock was also pretty heavy. The Electric just now came back on so I'm late on this thread as my computer was down. No one hurt on Maui that I have heard about. It hit the big island harder than us on Maui. On top of all else there is a big storm coming from the N. west and flash flood warnings are out for most of the islands. As of right now the weather is partly cloudy and pretty warm out. Will let you know as things get back to normal here. Aloha fishhawk

Hmmm, was that when they were filming a Batman sequel?

By golly, I think you're right. I think they were shooting Batman Forever. Warners had absolutely no hesitation about putting the lot back in service. When I got there around 5am on the morning of the quake, they were already surveying the rubble piles. My office up north of the water tower was wiped out by a broken water main, and I was moved off-lot for a couple of weeks, but they got the lot re-opened in days and were well on the way to normalcy a short time later. Pretty amazing recovery.

The funny thing was, there's one stage there that was involved in some epic space adventure, possibly "2001", where the director need much more grid space than the standard stages had. The solution was to disconnect the stage from its foundation, jack it up twenty feet, then build new walls underneath it. That was the stage I always figured would get clobbered in a quake, but amazingly enough it came through pretty well. You can still see the thing poking up above the other stages when you come down the Barham speed trap/hill.

And it's a good game to be watching if you're a Rivers fan :-) Well, ok, I think most would be Chargers fans...but...Rivers is sure doing amazingly well...so I think he may be gaining more fans than he thought he'd get. Great TD pass first half :-)

That's the game my parents keep asking for SMS updates on :-) (Which I'm glad about, since it's the one I'd prefer to be watching! ha!)

Is that a dust cloud in the 2nd pic generated from the quakes?

I live in Kailua-Kona. An amazing rumbling sound that grew over 10-15 seconds and then the house shook violently for what felt like nearly two minutes. Quite a shaker, it knocked down quite a bit of stuff in the house.

No visible structural damage apparent in the streets surrounding my place.

I think the people who build these sets do an amazing job.

When Fox was showing that picture, they said it was a landslide.

I am most definitely a fan of Phillip Rivers and a lifetime fan of the Chargers.

I have been checking this thread too.
Prayers for all, but fortunately, no deaths, right?

I was wondering that too...heard a local awhile ago on FOX mention there was a big land/rockslide into one of the beautiful bays ...maybe the dust cloud is from that?

Same here on Maui. Actually for me, the noise of the coming quake was more frightening than the quake itself, although, the quake did fairly shake things up here. Aloha

When we had the 6.5 here on the central coast of CA, I had a similar experience. Before the quake hit, there was this loud noise rather like a large prop plane coming but stopping over the house. Then I saw the earth roll up and down. We could not stand up. We eventually got out of the house which we later learned was not such a bright idea as the tiles from the roof could have hit us..we would have been smarter to stay in a door way.
When it stopped, we got as much or our important papers etc loaded into the trucks and coolers readied. We were without power for nearly a day. It got bad at night when we had after shocks and couldn't see...we are now equipped with disaster kits.
