Pakistan foils coup plot By Syed Saleem Shahzad
KARACHI - A plot to stage a coup against Pakistan's President General Pervez Musharraf soon after his recent return from the US has been uncovered, resulting in the arrest of more than 40 people.
Most of those arrested are middle-ranking Pakistani Air Force officers, while civilian arrests include a son of a serving brigadier in the army. All of those arrested are Islamists, contacts in Rawalpindi, where the military is based, divulged to Asia Times Online.
The conspiracy was discovered through the naivety of an air force > officer who this month used a cell phone to activate a high-tech rocket aimed at the president's residence in Rawalpindi. The rocket was recovered, and its activating mechanism revealed the officer's telephone number. His arrest led to the other arrests.
Other rockets were then recovered from various high security zones, including the headquarters of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in Islamabad.

Congrats to Musharaff for successfully defending his title once again, middle-weight champion of Pakistan!
One of my classmates at the Air War College was a Pakistani Colonel and a devout Muslim.... He was a strange character and seemed to have the willingness and ability to act politically on religious ground. In the present environment it seems things like that are enhanced if not exacerbated.
"Free Republic needs to sponsor an award similar to the Darwin Awards for guys like this."
Or Dan Pearl's killers, who thought they were being anonymous by sending Hotmails from a Karachi Internet cafe to American news organizations, not realizing that Hotmail puts the IP for the Internet cafe in the email header.
Duh.
If the Islamic nuts gain control of Paki nukes something must be done about it that exact minute imo.
It would pale in comparison to the NK or Iran nuke problem.
I hope we have not only a plan, but the will to do whatever it takes if this happens.
We'd be looking at a regional nuclear war in very short order.
Yes, once Iran has the bomb the show will begin.
Isreal will probably get hit with a nuke in a truck, then Isreal will launch. Once one nuke is in the air theres no telling where it will end.
My concern is one nuke on a fishing boat that pulls into New York. If they pull that crap, there wont be one Islamic city in existance the next day. New York gone, but Problem resolved. I hope thats been made clear to these A-Holes.
He was persecuted as a heretic for all of that, but primarily because Islamists insists that Mohammad was the last prophet and to speak of a prophet after him is blasphemy. As heretics the Jihadis view Baha'is as worse than Christians, Jews or even pagans. "Kill a Baha'i, go directly to heaven and collect you 72 virgins" is their attitude. President Reagan even spoke out about the persecution of Baha'is in Iran after the revolution.
If you were around in the 70s you probably remember a book by Kahlil Gibran that was a mini-phenomenon called The Prophet. It was originally published in the 20s but had a resurgence in the age of the counter culture as the hippies started looking for alternative paths. Traditional Baha'is say he gets lots of things wrong and it's not strictly about Baha'u'llah, but a lot of Americans got introduced to the Baha'i faith by that book. My wife's Mom became a Baha'i around the mid 60s and my wife and her sister were basically raised in that faith. No churches per se (big house of worship in Wilmette, Illinois and a beautiful shrine and gardens in Haifi, Israel) or priesthood, just mostly folks getting together in local homes. And a very diverse bunch ethnically, as well. They also have representation as an NGO at the UN. The Baha'i who was their rep at the UN at the time of our wedding officiated for the Baha'i portion of the ceremony, which was kind of cool. We even had an African king come to the ceremony through those connections (he was a student at NYU at the time).
My problem with their belief system is that they explicitly deny Christ's divinity and even maintain that He didn't die on the cross and was therefore not resurrected. Not the Da Vinci Code conspiracy stuff, just we got the story wrong. This comes from their faith's Islamic roots and it ruins the whole thing for me. They also really push the idea of a one world government, with them at the heart of things, of course, spreading peace and love and universal brotherhood, naturally. It's attractive to a lot of liberals and artists and the folks involved are all very nice people, just not real connected to what works and what doesn't. Dizzy Gillespie, Seals and Croft, various and sundry actors and other artistic types that you would recognize, are all fairly prominent Baha'is. What's nice is they don't feel the need to shove their beliefs on anyone else. They think that eventually everyone will grow up and come seeking their wisdom. It's all kind of laid back (except for the whole martyrdom at the hands of the Jihadis thing, that is).
Can a major catastrophe involving mushroom clouds be far off?
The result of islamic inbreeding..."Nothin' spells lovin' like marryin' your cousin."
That is incorrect. Indians have had an intermediate range ballistic nuclear-capable missiles since 2000. Google up their Agni-II and Agni-III projects.
Additionally, Hindus have no problem with torching Muslims. The hindu mobs will occasionally go around muslim neighborhoods and burn people alive. What makes you think they'll blink at nuking them ?
My friend, when you see what Sharraf does to these fools for trying to upstage him, it will STILL be messy. We're talking well beyond Formula 409 cleanup terriotr.
There's a very interesting radio station, out of Hemingway, South Carolina, with good reception all up and down the coast, from southeastern North Carolina beaches on down to near Georgia ... Radio Baha'i, 90.9 FM. Some of their "shows" have an interesting mix of world music, trance techno, old negro spirituals, etcetera ... very striking. They don't "push" any particular faith, just "unity." I usually tune in when I'm down to the coast. They may have internet streaming, for all I know. Google the Louis Gregory Institute, if you're curious.
Wow is right.
...there is a verse in the book of Revelations that nothing shall be added or taken away from the message.
Revelations is not the most recently written of the New Testament books and that warning also exists in the Old Testament. It only applies to the book that contains it. Otherwise, the NT and everything Jesus taught would be disallowed.
That makes sense. Thanks.
"My reference to India's Muslim population was a poor effort to say India would not have just Pakistan to subdue, but a very large domestic Muslim population as well."
As secular as the very large Indian Middle class is, I think the 13% Muslim population won't be as much of a problem as in a more fundamentalist state.
