We have a lot of freedoms in this country that when exposed to untutored prejudice seem shocking.

I understand what you are saying. But no tutoring can make me think that it is wise to allow aircraft to "circle the Statue of Liberty" without rather significant restrictions. A small aircraft can do a lot of damage to the right target.

We definitely have people attempting to destroy symbolic targets, there is no debate on that and there are symbolic targets in Manhattan that we have to protect.

The reference was made to Ryder trucks, we shouldn't be allowing Ryder trucks unrestricted access to building basements or tunnels either.

We are in a war. In World War II if someone did not want their freedom restricted and insisted on keeping all of their lights on in a blackout...that is a foolish person.

Lots of people are yelling about restrictions on liberty at this moment or violations of civil rights....as if there were no 911......some have a point about some things....but there are necessary restrictions and life is not the same during wartime.

It's not wise to allow people to drive 18 wheeler trucks full of gasoline either, but we do. It's called "normal life". One of those driving into the lobby of that building and you would see serious carnage.

Just because the vehicle involved in this was an airplane lots of uneducated people panic. Get over it. Even in this case the thing hit a condo high rise and the only people killed were the airplane occupants. Same thing when the islamic idiot flew a Cessna into a building in Fla several years ago, killed himself and that's it.

During the Clinton administration another idiot (VRWC member, obviously) flew a Cessna into the grounds of the White House and killed just himself.

But let someone get out of control in a car and run into a crowd and you'll see some death and destruction. Little airplanes literally can't carry enough weight to be very dangerous.

We did ... there were no blackouts on the east coast for months at the beginning of WWII.

How about this ? Restrict tourist access to the Statue of Liberty and paint a big target on it.

If we are destined to have a terrorist attack, I would sure rather they hit an empty copper symbol then a packed Yankee Stadium ....

Why do you think GA is a threat? If you wanted to ban commercial traffic, you may have a point. I might even support you there, since we have demonstrated proof of what a big airliner is capable of.

But trying to restrict GA more than it is is simply silly. I can carry a lot more explosives in a Pinto than I can in a Cirrus and have a lot more penetrating power too.

Now that I think about it we should ban private cars. Cars definitely kill a lot of people and they are the terrorists preferred choice of weapon.

Ahhh, come on now, that was a gift from the French; and the last I heard they wanted it back anyways. ;-)
