Saw a taxpayer funded PBS rant yesterday on Frontline about how all talk of domestic terrorism is overblown. They question whether they is any presence of "real" Al Qaeda operatives in the US.

I have no doubt they are here. This is just too small for Al Qaeda, IMO. We'll see though. Keep all involved in prayer!

If on 9/12 2001 somone had posted on FR a prediction of the actual number and scale of Islamic terrorist attacks (and sorry nutters, you can't count the U of OK suicide bomber and Flt 587) in the United States in the next 5 years they would have been ridiculed/attacked right off the board for being hopeless Pollyannas.

It's abundantly clear there's no vast network of THOUSANDS of actual AQ operatives in the US as so many people want to believe.

Right, I don't see this as an AQ act. Coordinated Cessnas in major metropolian areas would point to something bigger.

There were worries after 9-11 that they might use Cessnas to airdrop WMD (biological/chemical) over an area (cropdusting).

So far, the nature of domestic terrorism we have largely seen carried out in America has been of the "lone nut" variety, but then they are ALL nuts. So are Klan members.

We've had the anthrax attacks, the LAX Air Israel counter shooting, the DC sniper duo, and then potentially larger plots with the shoe bomber, Padellia's dirty bomb, the Brooklyn Bridge bombing (Koch has noted this one), the West Coast hijacking plot (President Bush has noted this one), the Chicago Sears Tower plot...
