My great grandfather did the same in 1863 when he emigrated from Wales. He served in the Union Army from 1863-1865 before marrying another legal immigrant from Aberystwyth, Wales in 1865.

In my daily prayers I thank that little hardheaded, one-way Guinea for doing whatever he had to do in order to become an American. He and My GrandMama produced, among others:

Second Generation: 1 Platoon Sgt-82nd Abn, 1 USCG Pilot
