"...PETA just protested a cockroach eating contest at Great Flags here in Chicago."

PETA was probably frightened that, in a cockroach eating contest, Dennis Kucinich might be deep fried and served up.

DANDONG, China (AP) -- China has canceled leave for its soldiers along the North Korean border and some units are conducting anti-chemical weapons drills after the North's nuclear test, a Hong Kong newspaper with close ties to Beijing reported Tuesday.

Leaves were canceled for Chinese troops in Jilin province, which accounts for about 80 percent of China's border with the North, the Wen Wei Po reported. Some units were "conducting anti-chemical drills," it said, without elaborating.

SEOUL (XFN-ASIA) - North Korea may move towards conducting further weapons tests and deploying nuclear warheads on missiles, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported, citing an unidentified North Korean official.

The official told Yonhap's Beijing correspondent that Pyongyang's next moves will largely depend on 'how the situation develops,' adding this will in turn depend on the actions of the United States.

N. Korea warns sanctions tantamount to declaration of war: Yonhap

SEOUL, Oct. 11
KYODO

A North Korean official warned Wednesday that if the U.N. Security Council decides on full-scale sanctions against the country over its nuclear test, that would be construed as a declaration of war, Yonhap News Agency reported.

''If full sanctions are imposed, we would consider it as a declaration of war,'' the report from Beijing quoted an unidentified North Korean official as saying in the Chinese capital.

Asked what he meant by full sanctions, the official, who stressed he was only giving his personal view, said that would include such measures as a maritime blockade.

''The harder the pressure will be, the higher will be the level of our response'' he warned.

N Korea raises threat of new test

North Korea's second most powerful leader has said that whether further nuclear tests are carried out depends on US policy, Japanese media report. Kim Yong-nam said the decision depended on how the US treated North Korea, Japan's Kyodo news agency said.

He said US policy was also the main factor in determining whether to return to stalled six-party talks.

The comments were the first from a senior North Korean official since the country's claimed nuclear test.

North Korea says Japan is gearing up for war

Posted on 10/10/2006 11:56:42 PM PDT by DTAD

SEOUL: Communist North Korea accused Japan Wednesday of gearing up for war as Tokyo pressed the UN Security Council to punish Pyongyang for its nuclear test.

Japanese "reactionaries" are preparing to upgrade the Defence Agency into a ministry and set up a "strategic planning office" inside the agency, the government newspaper Minju Joson said in a commentary.

"This is nothing but moves to convert Japan into a military power and round off the preparations for a war of aggression overseas," said the commentary carried by the official Korean Central News Agency.

S. Korean Lawmaker, "Russia might have given N. Korea know-how of miniature nukes"

S. Korean Lawmaker, "Russia might have given know-how of miniature nukes to N. Korea"

Kong Sung-jin, a S. Korean opposition lawmaker at Intelligence Committee of National Assembly, told on Oct. 11, "We have intelligence that the reason why Russia is the first nation N. Korea gave advance warning of its nuclear test is because Russia gave N. Korea technology for miniaturizing nukes. They are trying to verify the allegation."

Legislator Kong appeared on 'Open World Today with Chang Sung-min,' a news talk show of Pyong-hwa Radio, and commented, "Russia and China were the first to know N. Korea's nuclear test. Even though it is not verified, we heard that N. Korea notified Russia two hours before the test."

He maintained, "I am sure that N. Korea want to keep equal distance from both countries, but it may also reflect N. Korea's deep dissatisfaction with China, due to its recent pressure on N. Korea."

"China got notified 20 minutes before the test, and notified S. Korea, U.S., and Japan in this order. That is why S. Korea got informed at 10:50 am (Oct. 9.) Since neither of U.S., Japan, and China had not detected underground nuclear test (in advance,) it is not fair that our intelligence gathering ability is at fault."

Nutmeg, well I am over here with a front row seat and there has been no activity that has changed our routine.

Warrior Nurse, I completely missed your post to me back on 10/9/06! Proof that I get FAR too many pings (and am running too many ping lists). I'm really sorry I missed your post.

Take care of yourself over there. God bless you and all our brave troops...
