President Bush and Mrs. Bush joined former President George H. W. Bush and Barbara Bush for the christening of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, the USS George H. W. Bush CVN 77.

Also in attendance at the ceremony were Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, General Peter Pace, Virginia Senator George Allen, Doro Bush Koch and Florida Governor Jeb Bush.

I commented on the thread that was dedicated to this event that the storm, the rain, and the two LOUD thunderclaps seemed portentous to me in regard to the waters into which the
George H.W. Bush would sail. In the article you pinged me to, it says,
The ceremony closed with tenor Ronan Tynan singing "God Bless America," which opens with the lines: "While the storm clouds gather from across the sea, let us swear allegiance to a land that's free."
I had the strongest sense that this warship is going to be called upon to do heavy duty at some future, critical time. God bless her, and all who serve her.
