Why did he save them for three years, how did they end up in the hands of a Dem operative and why did hire a top defense attorney? All questions inquring minds would like to know.

Me too. There has been too much background preparation to enable exploitation of this situation. Probably some willing dupes involved. And maybe payoffs as well. Let the investigations proceed.

This story doesn't ring true. Maybe the Democrats think their dirty trick is going awry and now they want to call it back with a lame excuse. It was just a bunch of conservative guys playing a trick on Foley and it somehow got into the hands of enemy political operatives. Right.
I read through the blog that broke the page's identity, and there was one character encountered during the investigation that was really nervous about what was going on. He was the former page that runs the page alumni website. If this was an e-prank ("e-prank"--you heard it here first!!), then this nerd (the website admin) is the kind of guy that would make it happen.
If the gag was shared with other pages or ex-pages, even if the group to whom Edmunds showed them were all Republicans, once something like that get shown around, it gets shown around and around.
That's easy. Pages are from both parties, but being young and into the social scene they make friends with each other and hang out together.
