Philadelphia Homicide Rate Breaks 300

(CBS 3) PHILADELPHIA Police said the death of a four-month-old baby marked the 300th murder in the city of Philadelphia.

Authorities said the baby was severely beaten inside a home on the 5400 block of Sharswood Street in West Philadelphia Sunday night.

The infant was pronounced dead at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Tuesday night.

Police arrested 35-year-old William Nurse, the boyfriend of the child’s mother, on October 1. He was charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and other related charges.

Officials have not said if his charges will be upgraded.

The city's murder rate continued to climb following a series of separate overnight shootings Tuesday that left three people dead.

Authorities said a female in her 30's was shot near 60th and Kingsessing Streets around 5 p.m.

The woman apparently drove herself to 58th and Springfield Streets before collapsing, police said. She was taken to an area hospital where she later was pronounced dead.

Several hours later, police discovered a 19-year-old male shot once in the head on the 2200 block of S. Hemberger Street in South Philadelphia.

Probably not - usually it's the next man through that kills the previous man's baby.

Since when is death a real impediment to voting for the Evil Donkey?

Are your sure she won't vote. Democrats routinely have dead people voting.

The mayor once hugged a convicted drug-dealer on the steps of his "legit business" while praising drug-dealers, in general, for their "natural entrepreneurial spirit".

The police commissioner is concerned whether the punishemnt handed down to criminals may be too harsh.

Calls for more gun laws, a couple cande le-light vigils and some singing of Kumbaya should straighten the problem out post haste.

Wasn't Philadelphia where someone was selling t-shirts that said, "Don't be a snitch!" or something similar?

Why is Philadelphia such a dangerous place? What is the reason for the huge murder toll?

You're funny, just because their dead does not mean they can't vote.

4 month old to 18 year old, they sure grow up fast.

Nah, it's all the legally owned firearms that the citizens own. If you take them all away, there will be no crime.

Here's a partial explanation:Philadelphia is essentially the Third World at this point and the downward spiral is accelerating. I live 20 miles away, and I rarely go there for any reason besides the 2 or so times a month my job requires it.
