We're assuming that the pages didn't keep the IM's for their own protection in the event Foley went ape-sh*t for rejecting his advances. How they got into the hands of Brian Ross is a whole other ballgame. But if someone with a lot of power was making unwanted advances on you and you could document it/archive it, believe me, you would.

Anybody who is in any way,on any level, famous, powerful, rich, notorious, or possibly going to become such, should realize in this day and age people will keep any and all communications. It's easier than ever to save communications and it's easier than ever to prove who sent them.
