I am still wondering how Foley's IM's were collected... Ditto.. Foley should be put in a deep hole, but I believe we may have a Watergate type situation with some dems, in which case, they should be in the same hole if they 'set' this situation up... Most IM programs (especially if he were using AOL as assumed by his e-mail address) don't automatically keep conversations.

Yeah, wouldn't one of the parties have had to log the chat? I know back in the day on Prodigy you could log them.

We're assuming that the pages didn't keep the IM's for their own protection in the event Foley went ape-sh*t for rejecting his advances. How they got into the hands of Brian Ross is a whole other ballgame. But if someone with a lot of power was making unwanted advances on you and you could document it/archive it, believe me, you would.

They don't. However, if you're using a general IM client like Trillian, which handles, AOL, Yahoo, MSN, etc., all history is logged.

I agree ... I'm still trying to figure out how it is done. I don't know anyone that saves them. Maybe all Representatives IM's are saved and we should (to limit damage) look at all of them.
I think ABC will break Hillary's affair with ... Eleanor Roosevelt's ghost

I believe Yahoo IM does. All it needs is for one side to keep them. I log things because I chat with coworkers at times and like having the ability to see what was said.
