Without heavyweights exposing the fallacy of gun control, this could be real bad news.

They better invite Wayne LaPierre or Chris Cox.

Maybe not. It sounds like they are going to discuss security. Teachers allowed to carry may come out of this.

Bah, just what we need.....a useless "summit".

What we need it to devolve more control to local schools so they can be responsible for their students safety as opposed to federal mandates.

It would be best to cancel this fiasco and send his sincere prayers to the Amish community in PA.

He should not let people attempt to exploit this. He would not be president if not for the Amish turnout for him.

He's just responding to recent news events. I'm not impressed.

A bit worried, in fact, that this president, who made his support of the assault weapons ban part of his election strategy, would even open this up to the type of publicity sure to come.

--yep--the initial buzz on it was that "we're spending too much trying to pass the tests so we can't spend anything on security"--

It's all being fed by the media. Suicide by school violence is the "in" way to go, if you're depressed. The media should substitute the word "whorehouse" for "schoolhouse" whenever these incidents occur, and the copycats will soon be attacking the wrong place.

I say let's throw more money at it and ban guns. That always works. Right? Right?????

The more attention is lavished by the media on these tragedies - the more we get copycat psychos.

Here's a plan: Disolve the Federal Education Commission, Give all education taxes back to the individual States, Privatize education and make it competitive, put schools out to bid on expiring contracts, abolish tenure for teachers, abolish the "can't spank a child" Act, put a curfew on all students for 10:00 pm and punish parents for not being home with them. Ok... maybe a little harsh but you get the idea.

Several 100 million people a year have countless chances to do what this devoid did but they don't. Someone who is armed and has their mind set to do what this guy did will likely succeed. No amount of summits or meetings will change that.

You hit the nail right on the head. There has been discussion about that very effect on two other threads on FR just today.

"This is just speak for gun control."

On the contrary, this is speak for being armed.

It will be interesting to see what this turns out to be.

Can you imagine a White House occupied by an insipid creature like John Kerry? Surrounded by anti-gun zealots, the Brady Bunch would be operating carte blanche right out of the Oval Office.

The solution to this, of course, is MORAL CHARACTER, something all-too-lacking in our society today. Of course, this optimal solution is also the most difficult to achieve, especially in this emasculated and victimhood-laden age. Figures!

Click the Gadsden flag for pro-gun resources!

No amount of summits or meetings will change that.

Agreed. The only thing that will stop this kind of tragedy will be an armed civilian willing to step into harms way to stop the criminal from hurting innocents.

There are maybe 4 people in our Federal Government that would approve of this. The rest of them see our Second Amendment as an obstacle and a bad idea. If they do anything, Congress will only make things worse.
