New Foley Instant Messages; Had Internet Sex While Awaiting House Vote October 03, 2006 1:22 PM
Brian Ross and Maddy Sauer Report:
Former Congressman Mark Foley (R-FL) interrupted a vote on the floor of the House in 2003 to engage in Internet sex with a high school student who had served as a congressional page, according to new Internet instant messages provided to ABC News by former pages.
ABC News now has obtained 52 separate instant message exchanges, which former pages say were sent by Foley, using the screen name Maf54, to two different boys under the age of 18.
This message was dated April 2003, at approximately 7 p.m., according to the message time stamp.

AOL, in situations where there is a criminal investigation, is required to turn the logs of BOTH screennames to the FBI. AOL has them and the FBI will get them. Simple as that.
A 16-year old kid on IM is not a victim. Foley resigned and should have the key thrown away. That said today's 13-year olds are more knowledgeable about IM's then a lot of older folks. They would get a kick out of getting someone like Foley to go back and forth. There is another kicker. If the IM's are not direct from an ISP like AOL, they can be doctored. My guess is that the person copied off the IM and may have taken license with them to make them worse. Would a 16-year old kid do it to show off -- in a heartbeat. If you have a copy of an email someone sent, it too can be altered. A written and signed copy of a letter is good as gold. What is on the net from email to IM is worthless unless it comes fromt he ISP storage.
Foley was an idiot -- never did like him and am glad he is gone but you are so right. People are aghast and my guess is that some of this is now phoney. Why wait for facts, let's just tar and feather all Republicans. (sarcasm)
this young man logged everything, it was a setup right out of the gate. you can tell from his responses in the IMs - he isn't some fearful 10 year old boy being preyed on by an adult - he is an active participant in this little game. that doesn't excuse Foley of course, he is both a pervert and an idiot.
Well, forgive me for seeming a little too Machiavellian on this, but if Foley dies ... this goes away.
Wasn't there a poster on this site with that username in the past? I could be wrong, but I thought there was. I just did a search under that name and it says the account has been banned.
Do a google and see what comes up, scary.
??? No one is defending Foley. The GOP is unanimous that he should be goen and he is. The point is the Democrats want to draw blood from the GOP leadership which is quite ridiculous seeing the Dems let their own member continue to serve after doing a lot worse.
I got the impression bad because he referred to the dem 'war room' being busy. I'm going to look through the Rush Live Thread later to see if I can find anything.
"I was listening to Rush in the 1:00 hour (before he interviewed Hastert) and he indicated there is another story to break. He figures it will be Friday." Another story on Foley? The repubs? the dems? who?
NOPE - Rush was just somewhat joking and saying they were running an office pool on the next big story and that whatever the Clinton war machine was cranking it out, it would not appear until after 3 on a Friday to make the Sunday talkshows.
Oh, I never said that the, then, 16-year-old was being provocative. Maybe he was, it doesn't matter with respect to Foley. His, now, 19-year-old behavior is relevant, however, with respect to shopping IMs.
And we've seen claims that the IM recipient was 16, but was he 16 at the time of the IM conversations? We just don't know.
No one has denied this story. And frankly if someone came out with a story about me being a pedophile I would be standing in the streets saying HELLL NOOOO. This guy checked into rehab!!! Is that sign of innocence over such a scandalous charge? Gimme a break you apologist.
I will give the Taliban credit for this. Were this to have happened on their watch, his head would be rolling somewhere in the dust.
So by your leftist logic, until a pedophile has had a trial, they are innocent until proven guilty and you would be happy to have them babysit your kids and would probably shout DISCRIMINATION if someone said I know the verdict isn't in yet but I'd rather not have you work in a position of authority over children. I'm a parent and I totally disagree with you cavalier attitude towards this.
You sound like a leftist Dem troll.
The boy forwarded the email to a staffer friend in Alexander's office with the comment that perhaps he was being paranoid, but that the email freaked him out and he considered the email/Foley "sick ... sick ... sick."
You're quite right. This was a sex scandal until yesterday. Now it's a political scandal and we have a right to question the motives behind the Media's and the Democrat's complicity in it.
ABC is paying reparations to Clintons for Path to 911.
Good observation and probably true.
but unless and until Foley makes some claim that these IM exchanges are not from him - that they are doctored in some way - we can't go down the road saying "validate them". of course, they cannot be authenticated, the IM provider doesn't keep these logs.
Again, Foley is clearly at fault. No question about his culpability. I am only making a point that the "boy" beared a certain amount of responsibility in carrying on these "conversations" with a well-known man many years his senior. The kid KNEW what Foley was talking about. He wasn't stupid about it.
It may have been a setup, but like you say, it doesn't excuse Foley in the least.
But, my big question is: who had these messages, and how long did they hold them?
Well.....the fact that he was just registered as being on While at REHAB should tell us something. Does he have access to a computer? IF not, someone else is using his name and possibly created all the IM's.
AOL DOES keep logs of IM conversations.
They may say they don't but they do. Of this I am positive.
